takeaway
"Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought
out for with ardor and attended to with
diligence." Abigail Adams. This reference is certainly
true for my experience in Edu 600. Throughout the
past seven weeks, I have learned a lot, but the three
things that I will take away with me are the flipped
classroom method, focusing on how to integrate
technology, and comprehending what instructional
design is.
One of my takeaways from this course is my
understanding of instructional design and technology.
Instructional design and technology, otherwise called
ID&T is “the field of instructional design and
technology [that] encompasses the analysis of
learning and performance problems, and the design,
development, implementation, evaluation, and
management of instructional and non-instructional
processes and resources intended to improve
learning and performance in a variety of settings,
particularly educational institutions and the
Based on this definition, and all the changes that ID&T
has gone through over the years, I have drawn the
conclusion that whether it be for education or the
workplace if the instruction is taking place through the
mechanisms, design, and application of technology,
then it can be classified as instructional design and
technology. In a nutshell, “instructional design and
technology [can be] refer[ed] to [as] the use of
technology to design, develop, and implement the
instruction.” (Sorensen, 2021)
Another takeaway from EDT 600 is the
concept of implementing the flipped
classroom method can reinvent the way that I
teach in the classroom. Based on research
from Goodwin and Miller (2013), educators
who implement the flipped classroom
method, have shown better or equal
outcomes in comparison to traditional
learning.
Since we are currently being trained to adopt a blended
classroom approach where students have more control
over the time, place, pace, and path of their learning. I
will be using some of the time during my Christmas
break to think of the different ways that I can implement
the flipped classroom model. If I am successful, then I
will be able to share my ideas with the other staff
members. These ideas will be shared in my Professional
learning community with other staff members.
My final takeaway is learning how to
integrate technology into the classroom.
I need to ensure that my students
understand the technology that is being
used, and that they also have access to
technology.
I have also learned about the different learning
theories so I will as an instructional designer, I will
ensure that the curriculum that I create is
engaging and interactive for students.
These takeaways will impact my role as an
educator going forward, and I will use them to
guide my path as an instructional designer when I
complete my degree. I will ensure that the
designs that I create are interactive, reusable,
and engaging.
