- #20 EDS has a long history of blazing new trails and solving complex problems for our clients – we’ve been doing it for more than 46 years. Innovative, visionary people and numerous IT milestones mark our history – from EDS’ iconic founder to its current team of can-do client advocates and thought leaders. In the early ‘60s, companies didn’t have in-depth knowledge about how to use all the computing equipment that was coming into the market, but they were beginning to see that the use of computers was the future of commerce. As their business ally, EDS and its visionary founder, Ross Perot, figured out how to tap into idle mainframe time to process our first client’s data more efficiently and cost-effectively. - #22 EDS’ ability to manage complexity is second to none. We maintain IT operations for some of the largest government and private sector clients in the world. Our clients represent 20 percent of the Fortune 1000 (US companies) and Fortune 500 (global companies), and we provide services to more than 500 government entities in 27 countries. EDS’ large-scale accomplishments include the completion of a massive IT transformation for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the largest ministry in the United Kingdom’s central government. The transformation effort included the installation of more than 130,000 new desktops in 1,400 locations, the consolidation of multiple print and data centers and the smooth transition of more than 130 Service Level Agreements. With IT responsible for an estimated 2 percent of global carbon dioxide pollution – equivalent to that of the aviation industry – EDS developed a transformation service to cut clients' carbon footprints by up to 40 percent and infrastructure costs by as much as 30 percent. In 2007, EDS launched an Australia-first, end-to-end green services initiative to cut carbon emissions across its Australian and New Zealand businesses by 25 per cent over the next three years and establish a fund to finance carbon offset programs.
