Long shots are used to tell you were someone is. It can sometimes
have a bluish back ground to make the viewer feel a bit sea sick,
which is what the film maker wants you to feel
• What is ‘non-diagetic sound’?
when the viewer can hear a note of music playing underneath the
sounds of nature which is in the film that the actor can not. The
music adds to the mood
• How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring?
(what shots are used and why?)she looks down at the ground and
moves lower where her head moves out of the shot then you see her
hand reach for a ring. Cutting the images is a much quicker way of
making the same point you could have done with a different shoot.
Hustle
• Overhead establishing shot – what does this achieve?
With this shot it cuts back and forth. It allows you to see that one
person is talking to a group of people at once and more then one
character.

2. • What is Shot-Reverse-Shot?
is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another
character, and then the other character is shown looking back at
the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in
opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at
each other.

Eye-line matching enables you to see what the character standing
up is looking down at.(the character below him) so you can see his
talking to him by his eyes.
• Why do we cut to the other members of the group?
They cutt to other characters faces so you can see there reactions
on there faces

It’s a transition used between a scene
• What is the effect of using quick cuts?
The effect of using quick cuts creative a fast rhythm, which keeps
the story in turn.

point in time to another. There often used to show past story to
show were they was to how they got were they are now.

nothing to do with each other but they have a connection

Long shot is used of a flash backin the beginning which leads to a
present cutaway. In this clip you can hear non-diagetic sound as it
cuts back and forth from cutaways. There is a close up of her face
going to the edge of the camera to show she is reaching down for
something. You then see a clip of her hand reaching to the ring that
gives the clip a distressed feel. Flash backs and Elliptical editing is
used for the next scene, which shows its now night and she’s sitting,
by the fire again with cutaways showing what has happened before
you can also hear non- diagetic music while this is happening because
there is no speaking. In the next clip a long shot is used to show she
is alone. The scene after is a close up of her face with a hand held
shaky camera to make it seem like she is in panic, along with quick
flash backs to get the viewers attention and concentration going

6. Editor Job profile:
An editors job is to make sure the finished film flows perfectly
from start to end carefully analyzing each shot to make sure the
story catches the attention of the audience, an editor is also
responsible for first assistant editors and second assistant and
trainees for productions.
Being an editor is a creative rewardingjob who will work closely with
the director. The hours are mostly long and unsociable and there is
a lot of pressure. Editors usually work freelance and are employed
by the producers chosen very carefully based on there reputation
and experience.
Before hand the producer will discuss how to maximize the potential
of the screenplay. Work begins in the cutting room by looking at the
previous days rushes that would be developed overnight by a
assistant editor.
An editor has to check technical standards, emerging sense of
story, and the actor’s performance. Shooting scenes may not be
shot straight from beginning to end so the editor must have a good
understanding of how the movie unfolds. Editors spend hours
selecting best scenes, reworking scenes and cutting them together
to create a rough assembly.
The editor and producer again work closely to refine the assembly
edit into the directors cut, that has to be approved by the
producers until picture lock or fine cut is achieved.
