How to scale a chocked up mid-stage startup!!!himey75
Glorious days of your little cute startup seems almost fading! A sweet little family of 100 some geeks with great ideas, strengths and expertise is quickly becoming unproductive and short of focus! Current SDLC processes, team structure & engineering practices have been proven bottleneck and unable to scale to the increased demand and volatility of the business.
What is going on here???
If you long for greater agility in your process-oriented or CMMI world, this session is for you. Paul McMahon shares how organizations can integrate agile approaches with CMMI and its key process area requirements. He discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches taken by two organizations-one a CMMI Level 3 and the other a Level 5-to embrace agile principles and practices. To ensure your organization doesn't jeopardize its CMMI compliance with agile methods, Paul shares an approach that uses techniques such as asking key questions to focus objectives, pruning your processes, using the CMMI less formally, and keeping your "must dos" packaged separately from guidelines. He describes and discusses examples of each technique. Learn why the two organizations took different approaches, why one achieved its goals, and why the other fell short. If your organization is invested in CMMI, learn what others have discovered about increasing organizational agility and performance while remaining CMMI compliant.

Updating Legacy Systems: Making the Financial Case for a Modernization Project ILM Professional Services
Most people associate the term “legacy system” with old code, but a true legacy system is any application that is difficult to update. A two-year-old app can already be in a legacy state if it’s unscalable.
Many companies put off updating a legacy system, even when they accept its limitations. It can be a hard sell to replace functioning systems, but the longer it is put off, the more expensive it ultimately becomes.
This deck outlines the financial reasons for updating a legacy system.

It is my goal to not only model the latest fashions, but to model what it is to be healthy in this industry. Through trial and error, I have learned so much about diet, exercise and nutrition. I enjoy sharing the things I'm learning with women who match my passion for beauty without compromise. It takes a lot of hard work to be fit and healthy, but in the end, it's worth it.

A successful ecommerce project is a beautiful thing. It can raise revenue, reduce cost, and strengthen a brand. Unfortunately, the visibility of ecommerce and the breadth of stakeholders can amplify the usual project risks-availability of IT skills, understanding of business needs, scope control, accurate estimating, and so on. We sifted through the results (and in some cases, debris) of ecommerce projects over the last 10 years to bring you this "on the ground" view of what to do to turn the odds in your favor.

Cost effectiveness - Our model typically allows projects to be implemented far below on-site cost Scalability - Allows the client to scale up or scale down the team size Time-to-market - Our development bandwidth and mature processes allow us to jump-start new projects within days. The virtual team can leverage time zones to create a 24x7 development operation Focus - The client can focus on its core business, while Jhelum Technologies will leverage its core competence of development and maintenance
EcomNets has adopted certain best practices in order to make business success of the offshore development strategy. Effective Communication The organizational structure in the model is devised to promote better communication. In this model, one manager each is identified at both the on-site and offshore locations. The manager on-site is referred to as the Account Manager and the manager offshore is the Project Manager. The Account Manager is deputed to be the key contact person for EcomNets with the client, and shoulders much of the responsibility for ensuring that client requirements, needs and feedback are effectively communicated to the team at the Development Center. The Project Manager is in-charge of all developmental activities done offshore. One or more coordinators are identified both on-site and offshore, and are responsible for individual projects. The On-site Coordinator (stationed at the client’s site) interacts with the client and the offshore coordinator (stationed at EcomNets in India) for all project specific information. The Offshore Coordinator manages the development team comprising of Project Leader and Engineers, all dedicated to the clients project in India. Retained Domain / Business knowledge The offshore development concept ensures that business knowledge / domain knowledge of a client’s system will be retained with the dedicated team. Attrition will not create problems, since the resources in a project team are buffered, and training is continuous and ongoing. Quality The deployment of standard methodologies and standard productivity measurement techniques ensure that the required outputs are delivered within time and budget parameters. Further, the offshore development concept helps to evolve an efficient process management methodology, which is tailor made to suit the needs of the client. Process analysis carried out on an ongoing basis paves the way for continuous process improvements, which are done based on product, process and project measures. The process can therefore be continuously modified to suit changing business needs and improve productivity / quality. Information Security EcomNets respects the intellectual property of its client. We have information security policy and procedures, which assures that the privacy, integrity and security of information. Policies and procedures assure authorized access to project information. Physical access restricted areas for project teams ensure authenticated access to information. Network security with isolated networks ensures integrity and privacy of project data. Data communication with clients is managed over VPN's.
Team Structure Initially, EcomNets would send consultants having Domain Expertise onsite to understand the client’s requirements, and to identify components that can be transitioned offshore. Then, EcomNets sets up a development team, with offshore and on-site staffing components depending upon the continuous needs of the client. As client’s needs grow, a dedicated team shall be set up for the client. A typical offshore project staffing would consist of the following resources. The team shall render its services with a defined set of roles and responsibilities. The roles and responsibilities shall be defined at the start of the project. However the broad outline of the roles and responsibilities are: EcomNets Account Manager / Clients Offshore Coordinator: Identify and plan projects to be outsourced Ensure supply of quality standards to be used for offshore projects Progress reporting to the client Participate in review meetings with the client Escalate issues to the client Maintain and build customer relations EcomNets Business Unit Head: Provide resource information, effort & time estimate for projects Plan, acquire and allocate resources for projects Initiate the project Ensure implementation and maintenance of Quality systems Ensure security and access issues during project execution Ensure timely backup based on agreed backup methods and frequency Review all documents and deliverables before dispatch on-site Escalate issues for further discussions with the client. EcomNets Client Onsite Coordinator / Project Manager / Subject Matter Expert Assist account manager in identifying and planning projects Ensure adequacy of specifications Provide support to Offshore team Ensure development of software in accordance with the Quality Systems Provide progress information Participate in review meetings with the client Review all documents and deliverables before customer delivery Escalate issues Assist in maintaining and building customer relations EcomNets Client Offshore Coordinator / Project Manager / Subject Matter Expert Provide effort and time estimate for projects Ensure adequacy of specifications received from the client Plan and allocate resources for the project Manage and develop Quality Systems Provide project status information to On-site Coordiantor Review all documents and deliverables before dispatch to onsite Escalate issues Project Leader Develop software in conformance with Quality Systems & customer requirements Allocate tasks to team members and monitor progress Guide team members in software development Escalate issues to Offshore Coordinator These are currently as envisaged by EcomNets, and could be reviewed/modified based on the kind of project and on mutual discussions with the client.
