Fall Semester August 2015
Ma’am, yes ma’am…I mean
Professor
As budget debates continue in Washington and military career stability is
questionable, now is more important than ever to be educated on military
educational benefits.
A Military Times report discussing Post-9/11 transferability limits
caused concern in military personnel; however this is only a potential
change that could be implemented. Educate yourself on these issues so not
to adhere to misinformation. Education is key to knowing the facts and
preparing for alternative futures.
The Army Times reports a plan to reduce Army soldiers by 40,000 troops
over the next two years. While President Obama stated, “This will be a
long campaign,” preparation for an unknown future ensures success.
August marks the traditional start to fall semesters throughout American
universities and colleges, and can mark start or continuation in higher
education for service members. The American Council on Education has
great information, including their From Soldier to Student manual.
Know your potential and the possibilities a fall semester can do for you.
“Walking across the stage helped it sink in that I have really
accomplished something that will make me better for the Army and life.”

Fall Changes and
Announcements
A new season, a new school year and
some exciting new changes for the
Education Center
They’ve put in hours of study,
sacrifices for college and
dedication to complete what
they started—earning a higher
educational degree. And they
deserve recognition.
Graduation provides a sense of
pride as graduates walk across
the stage knowing what it means
to complete a degree. However,
military life doesn’t always
allow that privilege.
That’s why Rebecca Schlecht,
Kuwait Education Director, held
the first commencement
ceremony at Camp Buerhing for
the graduating service members
of 2015.
Many view a commencement
ceremony as marking the end of
a degree. Commencement,
however, is defined as a
beginning. This describes what
these graduates have
accomplished—a new life
chapter via higher education.
We wish them all the greatest
success in their future
endeavors, whether it be to
continue studying for advanced
degrees, a longer military career
or transition to civilian life.
Change can revitalize a stagnant
environment. Summers are
hot—extremely hot—here in
Kuwait, so many welcome the
fall and the cooler weather.
We don’t quite get to see these
leaves here, but we can
experience that fall seasonal
change.
The Education Center wanted to
embrace this idea and provide
better opportunities for students.
So we’ve opened our computer
lab and counseling services on
Saturday to better assist your
back-to-school needs.
Also, say tuned for information
on tutors to help with your
schoolwork in college level
classes.
GI Bill, Montgomery, Post 9/11,
TA, FAFSA…what are these
things and what do they mean?
With educational financial
assistance being just as
confusing as the abundance of
military acronyms,
information must be given.
We’ve heard your need and
now hold weekly briefings on
these exact topics.
Please join us on Saturdays
to get help in understanding
your educational options,
opportunities and benefits and
receive career management
advice on civilian transitioning.
