FOR EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON
BARRY KENNEDY
It is amazing how fast this year is speeding by. It is hard to believe that it is
December. This month brings to many the thoughts of winter and another changing of
the seasons. Often, we will hear “season’s greetings” from people wishing us a happy
holiday season. Seasons bring to mind the words of Solomon who wrote:
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the
heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to
pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to
break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time
to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather
stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A
time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time
to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time
to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. What profit hath
he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-9).
One of the great proofs for the existence of God is seen in the “order” of all things.
Solomon, credited as being the wisest man (save Jesus) to ever live, understood that
there is an order to life. If one were to look carefully at his own life, be it the past,
present, or preparation for the future, he should easily see the need for order in one’s
life. Solomon said that there is “a time to every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes
3:1). He then explained that those purposes referenced the physical attributes of life
(see above text). What a difference it would make in everyone’s life if they would
order their lives according to the Word of God!
This changing of the seasons brings an assorted array of emotions. Many times,
people expect that everyone else feels exactly the same way that they themselves feel.
This has caused some to say things that may cause someone else pain. People all over
the world are going through “seasons.” It may be that person “a” loves the holidays,
while person “b” does not. Christians are to be considerate of the “cares” other people
face. Peter said, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
If God is concerned about the “cares” of man it is certain that we should as well. It is
not by chance that Peter wrote verse six just prior to his admonition to cast our cares
upon God. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time” (1Peter 5:6). Notice the last two words of verse six again “DUE
TIME.” For everything there is a season.
Why then are so many people having what seems to be the “BLUE” season
more so than any other? This is a fair question, after all God is all powerful and all
knowing. Why does He not “fix” people’s problems for them? Remember the words of

Solomon, “To everything there is a season.” Look
back at the sorted list Solomon referenced in the
Ecclesiastical letter. Every positive has its negative.
Given the choice man would choose only the
positives, but just like the batteries that run our
gadgets, the positive is useless without the negative.
In fact, it is the negatives in life that give strength.
James put it this way, “My brethren, count it all joy
when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this,
that the trying of your faith worketh patience” (James
1:2, 3). Yes, there is a season for everything.
Finally, many people never seem to grasp the
real point of Solomon’s words in this chapter. They
are used very often, even in everyday conversation.
They are used at funerals for loved ones, and some-
times to console a friend who has fallen on hard times.
Of course, this is not wrong, but the point Solomon
was making is seen in verse nine. What profit hath he
that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?”
(Ecclesiastes 3:9). There is no profit to any of life’s
labors that fail to include the God of Heaven and
earth. It matters not what accomplishments one might
obtain in this life nor how respected he may be among
his peers. All that matters in the end is where God is
in our lives. It is easy to get caught up in the world of
earthly gains, but we must remember that there is a
season for everything under heaven. There is coming a
“season” of judgment. Are we prepared for that
season?

East main informer, 12 4-18

  • 1. 4 Hugh Vol. 43 December 4, 2018 Number 48 FOR EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON BARRY KENNEDY It is amazing how fast this year is speeding by. It is hard to believe that it is December. This month brings to many the thoughts of winter and another changing of the seasons. Often, we will hear “season’s greetings” from people wishing us a happy holiday season. Seasons bring to mind the words of Solomon who wrote: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-9). One of the great proofs for the existence of God is seen in the “order” of all things. Solomon, credited as being the wisest man (save Jesus) to ever live, understood that there is an order to life. If one were to look carefully at his own life, be it the past, present, or preparation for the future, he should easily see the need for order in one’s life. Solomon said that there is “a time to every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). He then explained that those purposes referenced the physical attributes of life (see above text). What a difference it would make in everyone’s life if they would order their lives according to the Word of God! This changing of the seasons brings an assorted array of emotions. Many times, people expect that everyone else feels exactly the same way that they themselves feel. This has caused some to say things that may cause someone else pain. People all over the world are going through “seasons.” It may be that person “a” loves the holidays, while person “b” does not. Christians are to be considerate of the “cares” other people face. Peter said, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). If God is concerned about the “cares” of man it is certain that we should as well. It is not by chance that Peter wrote verse six just prior to his admonition to cast our cares upon God. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (1Peter 5:6). Notice the last two words of verse six again “DUE TIME.” For everything there is a season. Why then are so many people having what seems to be the “BLUE” season more so than any other? This is a fair question, after all God is all powerful and all knowing. Why does He not “fix” people’s problems for them? • 2. --article continued from page 1-- Solomon, “To everything there is a season.” Look back at the sorted list Solomon referenced in the Ecclesiastical letter. Every positive has its negative. Given the choice man would choose only the positives, but just like the batteries that run our gadgets, the positive is useless without the negative. In fact, it is the negatives in life that give strength. James put it this way, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience” (James 1:2, 3). Yes, there is a season for everything. Finally, many people never seem to grasp the real point of Solomon’s words in this chapter. They are used very often, even in everyday conversation. They are used at funerals for loved ones, and some- times to console a friend who has fallen on hard times. Of course, this is not wrong, but the point Solomon was making is seen in verse nine. What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?” (Ecclesiastes 3:9). There is no profit to any of life’s labors that fail to include the God of Heaven and earth. It matters not what accomplishments one might obtain in this life nor how respected he may be among his peers. All that matters in the end is where God is in our lives. It is easy to get caught up in the world of earthly gains, but we must remember that there is a season for everything under heaven. There is coming a “season” of judgment. Are we prepared for that season? Community Outreach Program The Community Out- reach Program thanks everyone for their support in the “adopting a child for Christmas” project. All the children have been spoken for. We need these items back at the church building by WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5 so we can get them delivered back to the area schools before they dismiss for Christmas Holidays. Thanks so much!
