This article discusses the meaning behind the phrase "Home is where your heart is." It explores how home provides warmth and comfort, especially for those who had a difficult childhood. While home represents physical shelter, one's heart represents their emotions, values and priorities. The article examines Jesus' teachings about keeping one's heart focused on heavenly priorities rather than worldly treasures that can be corrupted. Ultimately, our true home is in Heaven, where our heart will be for all eternity.

HOME IS WHERE. . . pt. 2
Barry Kennedy
āHome is where. . .ā; What an opener! Take each word for granted, and you
have missed a great deal. Of course, the first word āHOMEā carries a great deal of
significance. Those who have a good home life hear this word and get that warm feeling
inside. Those who never had a good home life hear the term and long for that same
emotion. Home overflows with a heartfelt warmth most people long to feel. Previously,
we discussed how that home is where āyou hang your hat.ā This in no way detracts
from the warmth of home, as some may think. No, the inner peace that belongs to the
child of God allows them to find that warmth in knowing that he or she is at home with
the Lord, no matter where they may be here on this earth. What about the other two
words? āIS WHEREā are lead in words. They lead us to the rest of the phrase. Since we
already discussed how that āhome is where you hang your hat,ā this article will take on
the other most recognizable conclusion to the phrase.
HOME IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS.
Many of the lessons Jesus taught, while here on earth, had a direct application to
the heart of man. Let your mind go back almost two thousand years, in the region of
Galilee, somewhere south of Capernaum, and picture Jesus seated as He opens His
mouth to teach (Matthew 5-7). What an awesome scene to behold, even with the eye of
faith. It would have been amazing to sit at the feet of the Master teacher and to have
been given the opportunity to hear, first hand, the words He had to say. Is it not equally
amazing to read what He had to deliver? Over and over again, Jesus emphasized the
āHEARTā of the matter. The Jews understood the Law of the matter, āye have heard
that is was said by them of old timeā (Matthew 5:21, 27, 33, 38, 43). Jesus wanted them
to see how important it is for man to get his heart right, and we will find it much easier
to avoid the physical actions.
Home and the heart are closely knit together. Some may be asking, āin what
way?ā If we truly understand what the heart is, we will see the point more clearly. Of
course, the heart under consideration is not the blood pump located in the chest. We
would not say, āHome is where the blood pump is.ā We are referring to our emotions,
logic, and understanding. One might say, āthe center of man is the point we are
considering.ā The Bible often references the āheartā and it is evident that the blood
pump is not the subject God is referencing. Jesus made this point crystal clear:
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will
your heart be also (Matthew 6:19-21).

2. --article continued from page 1--
Treasure denotes something of great value. Jesus is
not condemning the possession of, nor desire for
obtaining, treasure. Far too often people misread the
word of God. How many times have people said,
āmoney is the root of all evil?ā This is a
misinterpretation of 1Timothy 6:10, which reads āFor
the LOVE of money is the root of all evil: which
while some coveted after, they have erred from the
faith, and pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.ā The attitude, i.e. the heart of the matter, is
that we are not to allow the cares/treasures of this
world drive or control us. God is preparing His
creation for the greatest treasure imaginable, a home
where there will be no more death, sickness, pain, nor
temptation, and it lasts for all eternity (Revelation
21:4).
While preparing the apostles for His death,
Jesus referred to Heaven as His āFatherās HOUSEā
(John 14:2). He informed the apostles that He was
going to prepare a āplaceā for them. What you and I
need to realize is that this same HOME is awaiting not
for the apostles alone, but for all those who love His
appearing (2 Timothy 4:8). Therefore, we all should
take careful inventory of our desires, hopes, and
dreams in order to evaluate the real focus of our lives.
We may be shocked to see that we are spiritually
bankrupt amid a somewhat āsuccessfulā physical life.
Can we honestly say that our āHome Is Where Our
Heart Is?ā

Thank You Notes
Dear East Main family,
My family and I are so very grateful for the
outpouring of love shown to us during the sudden illness
and passing of my mother, Clara Simmons. All the
cards, calls, flowers, visits, food and most of all the
prayers offered on our behalf are appreciated more than
you know. She loved this congregation, and we are so
thankful for all the support received both during the
hospital stay and during the funeral. Please continue to
pray for us as we learn to accept life without her. We
miss her, but we know we will see her again someday.
In Christian love,
The James Simmons family
