A Kingdom That Shall Never Fall
By Barry Kennedy
We are truly blessed to be citizens of the United States of America. I have yet
to meet a fellow American who truly desires to live in another country, though I know
there are some who do. We have confidence in our freedoms and liberties that have
been passed down to us from our ancestors. How often do we truly stop and
contemplate the possibility of this nation coming to an end? Many Christians reading
this may stop to consider the words of Solomon. “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but
sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). We are fully aware of the possibility
of our nation’s collapse. That does not mean that we (Christians) walk around in a state
of panic or fear. David said it best “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they
comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). We too can have that confidence if we know that we are
part of a kingdom that shall never fall.
People must realize that there is more to “life” than the physical realm in which
we live. I recall speaking with a friend about the different attitudes that are displayed in
sports. We discussed how difficult a time some have losing and how important it is to
remember we can’t win them all. He then said that there is really only one win that is
important. Of course, he was talking about winning the Christian race we call life. The
reward at the end of this race is an eternal home in Heaven. Listen to the way that the
apostle Paul described this victory.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I
have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth
there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,
shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his
appearing” (2 Timothy 4:6-8).
Can we truly say that is our future, or do we live in a cloud of doubt? God did
not make us to live in a world of fear, but instead He gave us a kingdom that will stand
forever.
The Bible is such an amazing book (Hebrews 4:12) in how it delivers guidance
(Psalm 119:105), reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness (2Timothy 3:16,
17). God included in His book to man prophecies confirming this kingdom.
Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, was given a glimpse into God’s plan for the
future (Daniel 2). Daniel, the young prophet and slave in Babylon, was given
Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and interpretation by God (Daniel 2:19-23). Daniel explained
how that God had given Nebuchadnezzar the events leading up to the setting up of
God’s kingdom. Daniel explained how Babylon (the head of gold) was going to fall to the

Medo-Persian kingdom (breast and arms of silver) and
they would fall to the Grecians (belly and thighs of
brass) who would then be overthrown by the Romans
(legs of iron and feet of iron and clay).
Nebuchadnezzar also saw a stone cut out without
hands, which smote the image in its feet and broke
down the entire image (Daniel 2:34-35). Daniel
impressed upon Nebuchadnezzar how that God would
set up a kingdom in the days of the fourth kingdom
(Rome). This prophecy would be passed down from
generation to generation until the fulfillment recorded
in Acts 2.
The Apostles whom Jesus chose were
promised physical life until they witnessed the
kingdom coming with power (Mark 9:1). He told
them (the apostles) that they would receive power
when the Holy Spirit was with them (Acts 1:8). On
the day of Pentecost, following Jesus’ crucifixion, the
apostles received that power and opened the door to
the kingdom of God, also known as the church
(Matthew 16:18, 19). That day three thousand souls
were added to that kingdom that Daniel said would
never fall (Acts 2:38-47; Daniel 2:44). Are we
members of that kingdom/church today or are we part
of a kingdom that will one day fall?
God is still adding souls to His kingdom today
the same way He did some two thousand years ago.
Are we going to gladly receive His word, be baptized
and be added to His kingdom (Acts 2:41, 47)? For
sixty years the Lord’s people here at this location have
been helping souls find entrance into that eternal
kingdom. Will you help us to continue that wonderful
heritage? After all, Jesus said, “Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20).
