- 19. Why Membership? • Membershipis consistent with our move towards participatory governance • Increase community support – For many institutions, “Sponsorship” is a no-no! (Implies charitable contribution) – More institutions are budgeted for memberships; fewer for sponsorships

Goals • Consistent modelsacross projects with room for customization • Keep administrative costs low • Roll out membership while governance evolves • Easy transition for current sponsors • Appeal to new members with benefits and opportunities for participation • Honor commitment, action, and merit!
- 21. Two Levels ofBenefits • Institutions receive DuraSpace benefits associated with their membership level. • If they choose to support a specific project(s) with their membership fees, they also receive project-specific governance benefits appropriate to their level of commitment.
