Colliers International - Overview of Dubai Healthcare Market 2020Mansoor Ahmed
The healthcare sector in Dubai is evolving to focus on specialized hospitals, daycare surgical centers, and centers of excellence rather than general hospitals with more beds. This evolution is being driven by rapid technological advancements and changes in patients who now expect quality care for a fee rather than just services. There is growing demand for specialized healthcare as Dubai's population increases significantly and ages, resulting in more non-communicable diseases. This growing and aging population as well as medical tourism present opportunities for operators to establish cost-effective specialty centers that can provide more services through daycare surgery.
The document discusses whether the lifestyle in Dubai reflects sustainable development. It defines sustainable development and examines Dubai across economic, social, and environmental factors.
While Dubai has a diversified economy and tolerant society, it relies heavily on fossil fuels and expatriate workforce. To improve sustainability, the document proposes developing alternative energy sources, reducing reliance on benefits for citizens to join the workforce, expanding public transport powered by renewable energy, and providing citizenship options to long-term expatriate residents to promote a more cohesive society. The government recognizes the need for improvements and has outlined plans to make Dubai a global, pioneering hub in line with sustainable development.

Global Collaborating Creates ProsperityRon McFarland
There is a lot of talk about protecting America from foreign influence in the US lately whether it be Latin America, the Middle East or Asia. That will only weaken the US, as trade has created great prosperity for the US, whether in wealth creation, pollution reduction, food supply increase, job creation or war prevention. Global collaboration is the best way to create prosperity and a better standard of living for everyone. People will have to be willing to adjust to change though. Ask any respectable economist. I did some research on this a good two years ago, but it is still valid today. Review this presentation. Imagine the past and think about what can be achieved in the future. We just have to start connecting and collaborating more globally. When language barriers come down with advances in translation technology, we will reach heights that no one had ever dreamed of. I hope this presentation gets people thinking.

Dubai has experienced rapid economic and population growth over the past 15 years, developing as a commercial and tourist hub in the Middle East. However, this growth raises questions about Dubai's long-term sustainability due to issues like traffic congestion, rising housing costs, cultural integration challenges from its diverse expatriate population, and pollution problems from waste and vehicles. Dubai is working to address these challenges through investments in infrastructure and public transit, housing development, education reforms, and environmental regulations. However, sustainable development will require improved planning and management of Dubai's continued growth to ensure its economic success is maintained for future generations.
The Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission aims to develop rural growth clusters with a population of 25,000-50,000 people in plain areas and 5,000-15,000 people in desert, hilly or tribal areas. These clusters, consisting of geographically contiguous gram panchayats, will be developed by providing economic opportunities, skills training, entrepreneurship development and infrastructure amenities to create 300 clusters of "smart villages" across India by 2019-20. The government has allocated over Rs. 5,000 crore for this mission to drive rural development through economic, social and infrastructure growth in rural areas.
Dubai's rapid economic expansion based on oil, real estate, and trade has led to unsustainable lifestyles among inhabitants dependent on fossil fuels. The government encourages consumption-focused individualism rather than environmentalism. Changes are needed at institutional and policy levels to incentivize sustainable behaviors and shift mindsets through campaigns, eco-friendly projects and regulations. Collaboration with Abu Dhabi, which has pioneered projects like the solar-powered Masdar City, could inspire Dubai to adopt similar sustainability initiatives.
The Economist Intelligence Unit has released its list of the world's 10 cheapest cities, based on the average cost of living.

Eight of the 10 cities are repeaters from the previous year's list. Manila, Philippines, and Tunis, Tunisia, have been replaced by Muscat, Oman, and Katmandu, Nepal, in this year's list.
