This document describes a proposed battery charger system for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). The proposed system aims to improve upon existing resonant converter topologies by using a dual active bridge design with GaN switches to achieve high efficiency and power density. It analyzes ripple power balance and control methods to suppress voltage ripples on the DC link. The system is intended to efficiently charge PHEV batteries from AC wall sockets and features good performance, simplicity, and small size.
