3. New Phone System
Enhances Our Capabilities
As Call Center and Corporate communications initiatives continue to grow in both size and complexity,
we began a process of designing a more intelligent and integrated communications platform. This new
platform had to meet a strict list of criteria including security, features, functionality and flexibility. After
careful consideration we choose Avaya. As a leader in telecommunications, they assisted us in designing
a system that provides the most advanced call handling and routing capabilities with fault tolerance and
enterprise functionality. The end result is a system that provides respondents, customers and employees
with a “best in class” experience.
New Back-Up Location
The Information Technology team has recently completed execution of our plan
to create an advanced business continuity site that will permit us to continue
data services in the event any disaster or incident might disable our Corporate
Data Center. This site is located 40 miles from our corporate headquarters
and incorporates redundant servers for all business critical systems. Data is
replicated to the offsite servers several times an hour with critical data being
replicated every 15 minutes. All replication is transmitted via a secure, encrypted
IPSec tunnel ensuring data security, integrity and availability.

4. Senior Health Risk
Assessment Tool (SrHRA)™
Call us today to check out the latest version of our Senior Health Risk Assessment tool (SrHRA™) for the
65 and over population. SrHRA provides proven health risk stratification measures based on self-reported
information and identifies high risk seniors with a range of chronic conditions who can benefit from participation
in targeted disease management programs, thereby improving their quality of life and reducing health care
costs. The tool also enables carriers to comply with CMS requirements for HRA administration to new
MA members.

5. Landlines Disappearing,
Especially Among the Young
DSS recently did a study for a client using a panel sample of 8,000 consumers with health insurance
and we asked them, among other things, whether they had a landline telephone. The movement from
landlines is indicated by the fact that over half of those 18-30 said they did not have a landline.
The results show a clear correlation with age, the majority report that they do not have landlines
by age as follows:
Age 18-30: 52.4%
Age 31-44: 22.8%
Age 45-64: 9.6%
Age 65+: 3.7%
These results strongly suggest that, depending on the population
you are trying to reach, panel samples may be the best option.

6. DSS on the Road
Two of our account executives just got back from the Medicare Marketing Strategies
Conference in Washington, DC. This conference delivered unique, compliant
approaches to marketing insurance products to the Medicare population. Techniques
were showcased through sessions led by industry leaders and discussion panels
concerning the most controversial topics with a focus on the core business
issues surrounding Medicare marketing. We enjoyed getting to see some
familiar faces and meeting some new friends.
Our Chief Technology Officer, Mike Foytik, just attended the 14th Sawtooth Software conference
in Delray Beach, FL. Hosted by the number one seller of statistical tools for conjoint analysis, this
conference is attended by academics and practitioners from around the world who want to stay
up-to-date on the latest techniques in conjoint analysis and market segmentation. Numerous
presentations and tutorials were offered throughout the five-day conference. This year, the
conference site was shared by another conference dedicated to the use of conjoint analysis
in health care.
Looking Ahead
DSS is going to be exhibiting at Institute 2009 presented by America’s Health Insurance
