Dream dinner party
1. The Dinner Party Dream Guests
In this task, you are going to act as a reporter who attends a dinner party. You should consider the
invited guests as dream guests. Who would you most like to attend a dinner party with?
The perspective you are to assume is that of a reporter who writes an essay explaining the choice of
guests, who is sitting by whom, what food is being served at the party, and what hostess gifts each
guest might bring or what gift each guest might be given. You might also describe how each guest
arrives at the party. Make sure to explain why each guest would be considered a dream guest.
As the reporter, you will need to report on the five people invited to the party. Two should be literary
characters. Two should be from history. These individuals should be people who have immigrated to the
United States in order to better the lives for themselves or their family members. The last person
should be a person that appears in current events. Keep in mind these should not be your friends or
family members.
You are then expected to write a six-paragraph paper explaining why these five characters were
selected. The first paragraph should be an introduction for the dinner party and should include the
setting, the purpose for the dinner, and time period in which it took place. The second paragraph should
tell why the literary characters were selected, what food was served to each character, what gifts were
given to/by the character, and what the characters added to the party. The third paragraph should tell
why the historical characters were selected, what food was served to each character, what gifts were
given to/by the character, and what the characters added to the party. The fourth paragraph should
describe why the person from current events was selected, what food was served to him/her, what gift
was given to/by him/her, and what he/she added to the party. The fifth paragraph should explain the
seating arrangement for the table (who sat by whom and why). The last paragraph should be a strong
conclusion. If you prefer a different format, you may change it; however, be careful to include all of the
required information.
You will know you have successfully finished when you have taken the piece of writing through the
writing process and have a final draft published. Your paper must be no longer than two pages double
spaced and size 12 Times New Roman font.
Resources you can depend on are peer editing and prior knowledge of historical figures.
You will need your imagination, creativity, and reasoning skills.
The final completion date is March 20, 2013.
