DOWNTOWN
About The DRC
The DRC’s mission is to initiate and
facilitate the revitalization of
Downtown Myrtle Beach. The DRC
staff and Board of Directors include
active past, present, and future
members of downtown. The public
is welcome to attend DRC board
meetings which are held at 2:00PM
on the 2nd
Wednesday of each
month in the first floor conference
room of City Hall, 937 Broadway
Street.
2nd – 9th Avenue North
Streetscape Improvements
Utility and streetscape improve-
ments continue on North Ocean
Boulevard from 2nd
Avenue to 9th
Avenue N. Project goals include
burying utility cables, installing new
water connections, widening
sidewalks, & improving pedestrian
traffic.
4th Avenue North Deep-
Water Ocean Outfall
Deep-water ocean outfalls are used
to carry rainwater offshore and
remove unsightly pipes from the
beach. The 4th
Avenue N. outfall is
under construction. The goal is to
consistently maintain high water
quality standards and provide a
reliable storm-water drainage
system to alleviate flooding.
Landward construction is slated for
completion by April 1st
and ocean-
side work will continue through
November 2015.

2015 Parking Season
The Myrtle Beach parking season
will begin soon. As always, parking
meters will be enforced beginning
March 1st
and the season will
continue through October 2015.

the City website listed below.

The Downtown Redevelopment
Corporation (DRC) has many roles,
one of which is its direct involvement
in the community where actions
affect the lives and businesses in the
DRC District in a positive way. This
year the DRC is planning to host a
District-wide community cleanup.
We’re calling it “The BIG Sweep.” The map shown here to the right
indicates the DRC District boundaries.
The objective of this project is to clean up the DRC District and
enhance city code compliance in a community spirited approach.
“The BIG Sweep” is proposed to continue the positive momentum
brought on by the ULI TAP Program. Cleanup goals can only be
accomplished through the partnerships of the City of Myrtle Beach,
DRC, Property and Business Owners, Community and Business
Organizations, and Volunteers. Staff and volunteers are asked to
help with simple cleanup tasks including picking up trash, cutting
weeds, and basic landscaping needs. The DRC and City will act as
workers and team leaders all while educating the community on the
importance of city code efforts.
The DRC and City staff is identifying specific public areas that
are in need of attention. So far some areas include Chapin Park,
Plyler Park, 5-Points Superblock, 9th
Avenue North, The Boardwalk &
Promenade, and Withers Swash area in Family Kingdom. By
accomplishing this goal the DRC hopes to create a better community
appreciation for the entire DRC District knowing that the cleanliness
of their properties and surroundings will encourage visitors and locals
to return to the downtown area on a regular basis. Businesses and
property owners can become a volunteer or donate supplies by
contacting Lauren Clever at the DRC offices (843)918-1055.
Carolina Country Music Fest

Park and Oceanfront sites. Performers will be announced
during the months leading up to the event but so far
expect to see Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Big & Rich,
Sam Hunt, and Hunter Hayes. Check the web for tickets

The Urban Land Institute,
Technical Assistance Program
The DRC staff has been engaged in a number of actions leading
towards the goal of preparing an updated Pavilion Area Master Plan
(PAMP) for approval by the DRC Board and City Council. Local and
external research and input have been sought. The Urban Land
Institute (ULI) is the largest real estate development professional
organization in the nation. Last November ULI assembled a panel of
experts from different areas from within South Carolina to survey the
South-Mixed-Use-Area (SMUA) in the DRC District and provide an
unbiased report on what planning and economic development
challenges and opportunities exist downtown. The SMUA in the DRC
District is defined as the area east of North Kings Highway between
1st
and 7th
Avenues North. The two-day panel has completed their
final report and DRC Board of Directors is ready to release their
findings. The DRC invites public input and attendance during this
final presentation of the ULI TAP Report @ 4:00PM on Wednesday
February 11, 2015 at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot. For more specific
information contact Lauren Clever at the DRC offices (843) 918-1055.
Participate in our Storefront Renovation Low
Interest Loan Program
The DRC has partnered with several local banks to provide low
interest loans to qualified applicants. Eligible properties must lie
within the DRC District. Half of project loan funds, up to $15,000
dollars, will be loaned by the DRC at 0% interest per annum. The
bank, at an interest rate negotiated between the applicant and the
bank, will provide the remaining funds. The resulting combined rate
will therefore be below market. Visit www.MyrtleBeachBoardwalk.com
for more information.
