Infosys Technologies’ effort to convert each employee’s knowledge into an organizational asset started in the early 1990s and extended well into the first decade of the 2000s.
In the early 1990s, Infosys launched its
bodies of knowledge (BOK)
initiative, which involved encouraging employees to provide written accounts of their experiences across various topics, such as technologies, software development, and living abroad. These experiences were then shared in hard-copy form with all other employees. This early effort ballooned into a full-fledged KM effort supported by e-mail, bulletin boards, and various knowledge repositories. After reading this weeks chapter, collective bargaining is essentially a negotiation and comprised of four parts, identifying the issues, researching, strategizing and setting ground rules. (Seaquist, 2015) In my opinion of the one step that would be most important would be the identifying the issues. You need a clear cut idea of what the issues are and where you plan to go with all of this "Since the end product of collective bargaining is the actual agreement, it is essential to first identify what collective bargaining should accomplish. This is referred to as identifying the issues.". Without clarity you could be arguing for nothing and that is where you will wind up and no resolution to anything. Identify what is wanted and /or wrong and then as they say do the research to know where you are going with this. As I stated before, without this step, things would become primarily useless as there is no guidance as to what the main issues are. Such as in this article it describes Mandatory Bargaining Issues as "An employer doesn't have to bargain over every conceivable employment issues. However, employers must bargain with the union over issues that are central to the employment relationship, such as wages, hours, and layoff procedures. Employers must give the union advance notice of any proposed workplace changes that involve these issues, if the union requests it. An employer who refuses to bargain or takes unilateral action in one of these mandatory bargaining areas commits an unfair labor practice."(Guerin, L.2015).

The process of collective bargaining relies on the effective preparation to make sure everything is in place to facilitate a successful bargaining process. The key steps in the collective bargaining process are preparation, discussion, bargaining, and settlement. Each step plays signification role in determining the outcome of the bargaining process.
Preparing for collective bargaining is crucial to the successful outcome of the process. It involves selecting the members of the negotiation team. The team should comprise people who possess extensive knowledge and adequate negotiation skills. The representatives of the union and the company take time to evaluate their goals at this stage. They should all ascertain if there is any valid reason for negotiation. It is imperative for members of the negotiation team to understand the current state of compensation, working conditions, and promotion strategies. It is the knowledge that is crucial to the success of the bargaining process.
The most step in the collective bargaining process is the first step, which is preparation. Negotiation is characterized by discussions and proposals to enable both parties to reach a common point. This “Assignment 2” writing assignment is a comparative essay focused on topics encountered in our HUM 111 class. The project will be based on research but will reflect your views and interpretation of the topic. This project is designed to help you stretch your mind and your abilities as an organized, innovative, and critical thinker. If approached properly, it should also be fun!
Choose one (1) of the topics from the list of topic choices below. Read the topic carefully. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper (750-1,000 words) that follows instructions and covers each part of the topic. (The title page and References list do not get included in this word count).

For the topic you choose:
Establish a clear thesis about your topic as part of the introductory paragraph (often the thesis is the last thing one determines after doing the basic research and outline; however it will be placed in the first paragraph of your paper).
This is a comparative essay. Comparison approached properly will require some critical thinking on your part. Use a point-by-point approach for the essay. This “Assignment 2” writing assignment is a comparative essay focused on topics encountered in our HUM 111 class. The project will be based on research but will reflect your views and interpretation of the topic. This project is designed to help you stretch your mind and your abilities as an organized, innovative, and critical thinker. If approached properly, it should also be fun!
Choose one (1) of the topics from the list of topic choices below. Read the topic carefully. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper (750-1,000 words) that follows instructions and covers each part of the topic. (The title page and References list do not get included in this word count).
Note:
Your instructor may require you to submit your topic choice for approval before the end of Week 5.
For the topic you choose:
Establish a clear thesis about your topic as part of the introductory paragraph (often the thesis is the last thing one determines after doing the basic research and outline; however it will be placed in the first paragraph of your paper).
This is a comparative essay. Comparison approached properly will require some critical thinking on your part. Use a point-by-point approach for the essay. That means, if comparing subject A with subject B, don't do the first half of the essay on subject A and then the second half on subject B--that will seem like two (2) separate essays and comparisons will tend to get lost. Instead, you should be mentioning both subjects in most of your paragraphs as you compare them throughout the essay. Comparisons will identify similarities as well as contrasts.
Do not try to do everything on your two (2) subjects. You should end up narrowing your focus to a few insights and issues about the subjects being compared. And, from those fairly specific points of comparison, you will develop a thesis and glean some lessons.
Follow closely the instructions below for your specific topic.
Include a concluding paragraph at the end. This paragraph will, in some way, refer back to the thesis established in your first paragraph, since now you have demonstrated and supported it. It may be here that you also include your observations relating your study to the modern workplace or society (see your topic). Try to finish with flair!

Throughout the course, you will be exploring various aspects of culture and intercultural communications. Your final assignment in this course will be to
conduct an extensive oral history interview with a person who is somewhat older than you and from a culture or subgroup that you are not a member of.
This person can be a relative or acquaintance who is from a different generation. It can be someone who immigrated to this country either recently or some time ago. Or, it can be someone who belongs to a different subgroup from you and whose cultural experiences you believe would be very different from your own. Obtain permission from the person you are interviewing to record the conversation (either an audio or a video and audio recording) or to take handwritten notes during the interview.
Your overarching goals during the oral history interview are as follows:

To learn more about the culture and subcultures to which your interview subject belongs.
2.
To determine what issues they encountered in terms of intercultural communications.
3.
To relate concepts you have studied in this course to the experiences of this person.
After you have conducted the interview, review your recording or your notes and write a six- to eight-page paper (excluding a title page and a reference page), in which you discuss aspects of this person's culture and/or subcultures and communication issues related to his or her cultural identity. Read the complete description of the Oral History Interview Final Paper due in this class. Here in Week Four, you must submit a draft of this paper. The draft should include an introduction, thesis, the information you provided in the Interview Description you submitted in Week Two, and be at least three to five pages in length (plus a title page and a reference page) at this time. The draft must utilize the course text and at least three scholarly sources, at least one of which you obtained from preliminary research in the Ashford University Library. The draft must be in paragraph form, properly formatted in APA style, and include an updated reference list of sources you intend to use in the final paper.
Final Paper: Oral History Interview Paper
Throughout the course, you will be exploring various aspects of culture and intercultural communications. Your final assignment in this course will be to
conduct an extensive oral history interview with a person who is somewhat older than you and from a culture or subgroup that you are not a member of.
This person can be a relative or acquaintance who is from a different generation. It can be someone who immigrated to this country either recently or some time ago. Or, it can be someone who belongs to a different subgroup from you and whose cultural experiences you believe would be very different from your own. Obtain permission from the person you are interviewing to record the conversation (either an audio or a video and audio recording) or to take handwritten notes during the interview.
Your overarching goals during the oral history interview are as follows:
1.
To learn more about the culture and subcultures to which your interview subject belongs.
2.
To determine what issues they encountered in terms of intercultural communications.
3.
To relate concepts you have studied in this course to the experiences of this person.
After you have conducted the interview, review your recording or your notes and write a six- to eight-page paper (excluding a title page and a reference page), in which you discuss aspects of this person's culture and/or subcultures and communication issues related to his or her cultural identity. In the paper, you must also include the following:
1.
The name of the person and his or her relationship to you.
2.
The interview subject's cultural background and the culture and/or subcultures to which he or she belongs.
3.
At least six questions from the following list. You may add additional questions or other questions not on this list, if you wish. Remember, though, that the focus of your paper must be on intercultural communication issues.
