This document summarizes research on the relationship between personality and romantic relationships. It discusses two studies that examined how the Five Factor Model of personality (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) correlates with attachment styles and relationship outcomes. The first study found that insecure attachment was linked to lower extraversion and higher neuroticism, which related to poorer interpersonal skills. The second study found that secure attachment and higher scores on the Five Factor traits correlated with greater psychological well-being, healthier interpersonal behaviors, and longer romantic relationships. Both studies provide evidence that personality influences the development and quality of romantic bonds.
The document summarizes research on the relationship between attachment styles and the Big Five personality traits. It discusses how attachment styles develop from infant relationships with caregivers and shape views of self and others. Personality traits are relatively stable characteristics that distinguish individuals. The study examined correlations between attachment anxiety/avoidance dimensions and the Big Five traits of Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness using surveys of 100 college students. Results revealed some personality traits like Neuroticism were strongly correlated with certain attachment styles while others showed weaker or no correlations.
Transphobia in Today's Society: Implicit Attitudes and Personal BeliefsStephanie Azzarello
Research presented March 4, 2016 at the Eastern Psychological Association conference In New York City. Research indicates that implicit attitudes of transphobia currently match explicit attitudes, possibly due to low social desirability. Predictors for transphobia are adherence to traditional gender roles, right wing authoritarianism, social dominance, and the belief that gender identity is a choice
This document provides a summary and response to an article titled "Gender Differences in Intimacy, Emotional Expressivity and Relationship Satisfaction." The summary discusses key findings from the article, including that women reported higher levels of supportiveness and negative emotional expressivity, while men reported higher levels of nonverbal and verbal affection and intimacy in relationships. However, men reported lower levels of relationship satisfaction. The response paper analyzes the article's methodology and conclusions, noting some limitations but finding the theoretical framework and arguments to be logically sound.
Thesis Poster for Outstanding Undergraduate Research by Nie (2019). "STIGMA RESISTANCE AND MENTAL HEALTH AMONG SEXUAL MINORITIES IN HONG KONG: A MODERATED MEDIATION MODEL"
The study investigated the relationship between the Big Five personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism) and marital compatibility in 15 married couples using standardized personality and compatibility tests. Extraversion and agreeableness were positively correlated with compatibility for males. Agreeableness and conscientiousness were positively correlated for both males and females. Neuroticism and openness showed no significant correlations. The results provide evidence that personality influences marital compatibility.
This study examined the connection between personality traits and moral judgment types. 208 psychology students completed a personality assessment measuring the Big Five traits and responded to moral dilemmas. The researchers hypothesized that people with higher openness would be more ambivalent in moral judgments, and those with higher conscientiousness would choose more human-focused judgments. However, the results did not support these hypotheses. Exploratory analysis found those who chose more self-serving judgments or absent judgments scored lower on agreeableness. The researchers concluded personality and moral judgment types may not be as strongly connected as previous research suggested.
This document appears to be a dissertation that examines how adult attachment systems can be activated through primes and how this influences social evaluations. It provides a review of literature on conceptualizing adult attachment as either traits or states and discusses models of adult attachment. It presents the study's aim to prime participants with either secure or insecure attachments and measure how this affects their attachment state and social evaluations. The dissertation discusses the theoretical background and models of adult attachment in depth to support the study's hypotheses that priming secure attachment would increase security and positive evaluations while priming insecure attachment would have the opposite effect.

This document discusses everyday life in the modern world and how it has changed over the past 50 years. It explores different perspectives on everyday life including how it relates to philosophy, modernity, and different types of societies like industrial, technological, affluent, and consumer societies. The document suggests that everyday life was once objectified but is now a subject. While styles and ideologies cannot replace what was lost, labor and consumption have transformed everyday life. Everyday life remains inescapable but also allows for change through tactics by aware individuals.

Females had a more positive attitude towards romantic relationships than males. There was no significant gender difference in views on what a partner can provide or physical attractiveness. Males held more traditional views supporting the concept of double standards in relationships compared to females. The study found both similarities and differences in how males and females view romantic and sexual relationships, contradicting some past research. Further research should examine the influence of other factors like religion and relationship status.
The study examined the relationship between permissive sexual attitudes and engaging in casual sexual relationships and experiences (CSREs). It also looked at whether identity confusion moderated this relationship. Logistic regression analysis found that more permissive sexual attitudes were associated with a higher likelihood of engaging in CSREs. However, identity confusion did not predict or moderate this relationship. The findings suggest that external factors may be more influential on casual sexual behavior than internal identity factors.
Family Therapy: Relationship Satisfaction & Marital AdjustmentUnmana123
One of the most brief yet comprehensive ppt containing ways of how to measure a satisfied relationship and adjusted marriage and what can be done in a family or marriage counselling and how therapy works with the couples.
This study examined the influence of peers and parents on the sexual attitudes of male undergraduate students. Questionnaire data was collected from 97 male undergraduates assessing their resistance to peer influence, sexual attitudes, and relationship with parents. The results found that higher resistance to peer influence was marginally correlated with reporting less permissive sexual attitudes. No significant relationship was found between perceived parental warmth and attitudes about birth control responsibility.

Items that stood out in the study
The number of items in the article is emotional experiences and how they are expressed in different individuals, the variation of the emotional expression concerning social, gender, and cultural relationship. These items stood out because there is a great variation in how different genders, religions, and people of different social backgrounds express emotion. The empirical research revealed these items on gender, religion, and social life. The researcher wanted to know the roles these three items play in individual emotions and how they are expressed between different individuals.
What did the authors of the study you selected examine in their research? What did they hypothesize and why (rationale)?
The author examined how often people face basic and secondary emotions in the study. He also examined the appropriateness in which different individuals express emotions to people of different relationships. The study also examined the appropriateness of feeling and the act of expressing basic emotions regarding religion and cultural background. (DeLeersnyder & Boiger (2016). The author hypothesis that there is a meaningful relationship between the expression of emotion and feelings. The author also hypothesis that there is a variation in the expression of emotions in different social relationships. The author's rationale indicated that different individuals have separate ways of accepting various aspects related to emotions, and their ways of expressing themselves vary from one person to another.
What methods did they use?
The author of this study used a questionnaire as a method of collecting the data. In the study, a total of fifty-four adults were used, including twenty-six males and twenty-eight females living in Sri Lanka and the western province. The research used a convenience sampling method to collect the data. The participants' ages ranged from 17 to 64 years, while the mean age was 28 years. The participants of the research were Sinhalese Buddhists. Participation in this study was voluntary. A questionnaire was developed to examine the emotional experience and expressions of different individuals. The researcher allocated time to explain the aim of the study to the participant, and they were given instructions for filling out the questionnaire.
Meaningful findings the authors
The researcher found that regarding the experience of basic and secondary emotions, there were significant effects from gender. Thus, it indicated that different genders had a difference in the feelings of anger, shyness, sadness, and pleasure. The research found that female experiences sadness more as compared to males. Concerning anger, it was found that males feel more anger than females. Based on the level of pleasure.
1) The study examined how attachment style influences individuals' motivations for casual sex and their enjoyment of different sexual encounters.
2) It was hypothesized that insecure attachment would motivate sex for self-reassurance, while anxious attachment would additionally motivate sex for relationship reassurance.
3) It was also hypothesized that enjoyment would depend on attachment style and encounter intimacy, with anxious individuals experiencing the most pleasure and positive emotions from intimate encounters, and avoidant individuals experiencing similar levels across all encounters.
This study examined differences in how men and women perceive sexual interest after brief opposite-sex interactions. The study found that men perceived women as more sexually interested than women perceived men. However, gender schemas did not seem to influence perceptions, as masculine men did not oversexualize more than other groups. Physical attraction strongly correlated with men's ratings of women's sexual traits and desire for future interactions.

CONTEXT
Prejudice occurs all over the world, often contributing to violence, oppression, and other forms of harm. What are the distinctions between stereotypes, discrimination, and prejudice? When do stereotypes become prejudices? Racism and sexism occur across races, ages, genders, religions, physical appearances, sexual orientations, and so on. Prejudice creates emotional, physical, and economic harm to individuals, groups, and society as a whole. But what factors create prejudice, and how can prejudice be reduced? What role do media play in both maximizing and minimizing stereotypes and prejudices? By examining how prejudices are cultivated and the damage they cause, we can begin to see how we might overcome and prevent prejudice.

Marital Satisfaction and Communication Skills Among Married Couples Maira Jabeen
This study examined the relationship between marital satisfaction and communication skills among married couples. It hypothesized that there would be a positive correlation between marital satisfaction and communication. The study involved surveying 50 married couples on their interpersonal communication skills and marital satisfaction. It found that communication plays a central role in marriage and that couples with better communication skills reported higher relationship satisfaction. The study concluded that interpersonal communication skills are necessary for building strong marital bonds.
The study found that manipulating empathy levels and relationship types did not significantly influence people's conflict resolution styles. Specifically:
- The empathy manipulation was ineffective as empathy check scores did not differ between high and low empathy conditions.
- There were no significant differences in positive or negative conflict resolution styles between those in romantic versus platonic relationships or between high versus low empathy conditions.
- Females reported marginally more positive conflict resolution styles than males, consistent with previous research finding females generally use more empathetic problem-solving.
The limitations included an ineffective empathy manipulation, an imbalance of more female participants, and fewer participants overall than intended. Future research could further investigate gender differences in resolution styles and the impact of empathy
The document discusses several theories related to how and why interpersonal relationships form, develop, and change over time:
1. Biological, cognitive, and social factors all contribute to initial attraction between partners. Hormones and proximity increase liking, while similarity in traits and values also draws people together.
2. For relationships to last, partners must perceive the relationship as fair or equitable. Unhappiness arises from imbalanced relationships where one feels under- or over-benefited.
3. Relationships continue when satisfaction is high, alternatives are low, and partners feel committed due to past investments. Over time, lack of rewards, high costs, alternatives, or low commitment can cause relationships to deteriorate or end
This study further supports both the feasibility and the importance of the feedback (PCOMS) intervention. The alliance significantly predicted outcome over and above early change, demonstrating that the alliance is not merely an artifact of client improvement but rather a force for change in and of itself. The study also found that those couples whose alliance scores ascended attained significantly better outcomes than those whose alliances scores did not improve. Together these findings suggest that therapists should not leave the alliance to chance but rather routinely assess it and discuss it with clients in each session
This study examined the relationship between sexual attitudes, identity confusion, and engagement in casual sexual relationships among 383 college students. The researchers found that more permissive sexual attitudes positively predicted engaging in casual sex. However, identity confusion did not predict or moderate the relationship between attitudes and behavior. The findings confirm the link between attitudes and behavior but not the hypothesized role of identity confusion. Future research should explore additional social and contextual factors influencing casual sex among emerging adults.

Religiosity and gender ideology as predictors of relationship quaKaren Bittner
This document discusses a thesis that examines how religiosity, gender ideology, and relationship commitment impact relationship quality. Specifically, it hypothesizes that religiosity and gender ideology predict relationship quality, and that this association is mediated by the three dimensions of relationship commitment - personal, moral, and structural commitment. The thesis uses data from the 1999 wave of the Family Transitions Project involving 290 participants to test whether religiosity, operationalized as religious attendance or beliefs, and gender ideology influence relationship quality directly or indirectly through relationship commitment. The findings provide insight into the mechanisms through which worldviews like religiosity and gender ideology may affect individuals' perceptions and evaluations of their romantic relationships.
This study examined the relationships between friendship quality, health, and relationship skills and beliefs in emerging adults. Significant positive correlations were found between friendship quality and physical, emotional, and spiritual health. A regression analysis also found that relationship skills and beliefs significantly predict friendship quality, accounting for about 8.5% of the variance. The results suggest that stronger relationship skills and healthy beliefs are associated with better friendship quality and health in emerging adults.

The authors conducted a study to evaluate changes in judgmental biases (cost and probability biases) as potential mechanisms explaining the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for social anxiety disorder (SAD). They analyzed data from 86 participants who received CBT for SAD and completed measures of social anxiety and judgmental biases at pre-, mid-, and post-treatment. Their results showed that reductions in judgmental biases statistically mediated treatment outcome and that CBT led to greater reductions in biases than a waitlist control. This study examined the relationships between empathy, narcissism, and quality of interpersonal relationships in 609 university students. The results showed that empathy was positively correlated with relationship quality, while narcissism was negatively correlated. Path analysis revealed that narcissism mediated the relationship between empathy and relationship quality. Specifically, higher empathy led to lower narcissism and in turn better relationships, while higher narcissism undermined the positive effects of empathy on relationships. This study provides evidence that narcissism plays an important role in linking empathy to the quality of one's interpersonal relationships.

Bram Verhoef, Head of Machine Learning at Axelera AI, presents the “How Axelera AI Uses Digital Compute-in-memory to Deliver Fast and Energy-efficient Computer Vision” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
As artificial intelligence inference transitions from cloud environments to edge locations, computer vision applications achieve heightened responsiveness, reliability and privacy. This migration, however, introduces the challenge of operating within the stringent confines of resource constraints typical at the edge, including small form factors, low energy budgets and diminished memory and computational capacities. Axelera AI addresses these challenges through an innovative approach of performing digital computations within memory itself. This technique facilitates the realization of high-performance, energy-efficient and cost-effective computer vision capabilities at the thin and thick edge, extending the frontier of what is achievable with current technologies.
In this presentation, Verhoef unveils his company’s pioneering chip technology and demonstrates its capacity to deliver exceptional frames-per-second performance across a range of standard computer vision networks typical of applications in security, surveillance and the industrial sector. This shows that advanced computer vision can be accessible and efficient, even at the very edge of our technological ecosystem.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:

How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
