Tools for Entrepreneurs: Create. Collaborate. Communicate.Sara Rosso
I created this presentation for entrepreneurs who need online tools to make their ideas happen (I gave it earlier this year at the Professional Women's Association in Milan).
The presentation "Tools for Entrepreneurs: Create. Collaborate. Communicate." started out as a way to explain very technical things to non-technical people, but I quickly realized that most people when approaching technology get intimidated by the "What's DNS? Do I need a dedicated server?" kind of questions and therefore feel they can't understand technology.
I feel that this technology intimidation is really due to the fact that they don't really own their idea, and better understanding it will guide any decisions they have to make with their idea moving forward.
So I focus on how to further refine your idea so you can move it forward, even with help, by having a better mastery over what you need and what your users need. I also cover some techniques and tools for collaborating with developers, external consultants, and other remote workers. Then, I briefly touch on communication strategies online and how your site won't be the only place communication happens but it should be the digital hub with the most useful and authoritative information about your company, and how you can develop a communication strategy that spans several types of networks.
The appendix includes some open source software alternatives for growing a business on a bootstrap budget.

Cal Poly - Data Management and the DMPToolCarly Strasser
October 17, 2013 @ Robert E. Kennedy Library, Data Studio, California Polytechnic State University.
Many funders now require researchers to submit a Data Management Plan alongside their project proposals. The DMPTool is a free, online wizard that helps you create a data management plan specific to your project, and provides you with links and resources for ensuring your plan is successful.
This webinar is intended for librarians, staff, and information professionals interested in improving usability for the DMPTool in their institution. This webinar will also help institutions begin to formalize which individuals or resources will be available to help researchers using the tool. This webinar will be most useful for users that need to customize the tool for their institution.

Data management plans existed long before the NSF started requiring them. DMPs have inherent value despite their being relatively unknown to researchers until now. Proper, thorough data management plans are potentially a major time saver and a huge asset for the project. In this webinar, we will cover how to go beyond funder requirements and develop more thorough data DMPs The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative requires an extensive data management plan for projects it funds; we will hear about their efforts and how they are planning to use the DMPTool going forward.
This presentation was provided by Maria Praetzellis of California Digital Library, during the NISO hot topic virtual conference "Effective Data Management," which was held on September 29, 2021.
Presentation given at 2nd DPHEP Collaboration Workshop at CERN on 12 March 2017. The talk reflects on machine-actionable DMP use cases developed during an IDCC workshop (http://www.dcc.ac.uk/events/workshops/postcard-future-tools-and-services-perfect-dmp-world) and activities underway or planned by the DCC and UC3 teams. These will be implemented in the DMPRoadmap codebase to pilot in our respective tools, DMPonline and DMPTool
Good systems development often depends on multiple data management disciplines that provide a solid foundation. One of these is metadata. While much of the discussion around metadata focuses on understanding metadata itself along with its associated technologies, this perspective often represents a typical tool-and-technology focus, which has not achieved significant results to date. A more relevant question when considering pockets of metadata is whether to include them in the scope of organizational metadata practices. By understanding what it means to include items in the scope of your metadata practices, you can begin to build systems that allow you to practice sophisticated ways to advance their data management and supported business initiatives. After a bit of practice in this manner you can position your organization to better exploit any and all metadata technologies in support of business strategy.
Takeaways:
Metadata value proposition: How to leverage metadata in support of your business strategy
Understanding foundational metadata concepts based on the DAMA DMBOK
Guiding principles & lessons learned
Software development should build on the successful work of others. The DMPTool helps researchers with data management planning, but what about other phases of the data life cycle? In this webinar, we will discuss what software integration with the DMPTool might look like, and why it is important. Topics include:
1. Background: why tools integration is important; why we are talking about this in terms of the DMPTool.
2. Details and plans for DMPTool2 regarding software integration and compatibility.
3. Future possibilities for software integration for DMPTool2
4. Example of successful integration of tools: work at the Center for Open Science.

Data Management for Mountain Observatories WorkshopCarly Strasser
Keynote presentation for 2014 Mountain Observatories Workshop, 16 July 2014.
Abstract:
While methods for collecting data are well taught, there is less emphasis on managing the resulting data effectively. New mandates, announcements, memos, and requirements from agencies and publishers are emerging that encourage better data management, data sharing, and data preservation. Scientists with good management skills will be able to maximize the productivity of their own research, effectively and efficiently share their data with the community, and benefit from the re-use of their data by others. I will offer an overview of data management landscape - discussing recent events, resources, and new directions for data stewardship. I will also cover best practices for data management, which will facilitate data sharing and reuse, and introduce tools researchers can use to help in their data stewardship endeavours.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
