Django Unchained
10th-11th January, 2016
The first event of the year, Django Unchained was a workshop on the Django framework used for
web development. The workshop registered a footfall of 90, with students from multiple depart-
ments like EXTC, Electronics, and IT as well as the Computer Science department of Watumull
College in attendance. The event was hosted by graduates of IIT Bombay now working for Teach-
Coder. The workshop involved a brief introduction on object oriented programming concepts for
coding beginners in the audience. The instructors also started off on Python and the basics of
HTML and CSS, which started the students off to create their own personalised blog. The feedback
received was overwhelmingly positive, with the students feeling confident in their skills to create
interactive webpages with versatility.

STTP on Cloud Computing
4th-9th January, 2016
ACM, a prestigious student chapter of D J Sanghvi College of Engineering organised a Short Term
Training Program on ‘Practical Insights to Cloud Computing’. Cloud computing is Internet-based
computing where shared resources, data and information are provided to computers and other de-
vices on-demand. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of con-
figurable computing resources. Cloud computing and storage solutions provide users and enterpris-
es with various capabilities to store and process their data in third-party data centres. As the topic
of cloud computing has gained momentum recently, this event aimed at providing a hands-on expe-
rience on cloud computing to its participants. Various eminent professors spoke at the event. It was
highly practical based to give the faculty exposure for the cloud computing based topics in the cur-
riculum .There was an overwhelming response to the event which was attended by 53 participants.
Blender Workshop
23rd-24th January, 2016
After the resounding success of the Django Workshop a few weeks ago, DJ-ACM organised the
highly anticipated Blender Workshop on the 23rd and 24th of January, 2016. Blender is an open
source computer graphics software used for animation, 3D modelling simulation, and video editing.
It also has its own integrated game engine, which makes Blender the go-to software for video game
designing. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Nitin Ayer, faculty at IIT Bombay, who has been
conducting well received technical workshops for several years now. He was assisted by ACM's
very own InfoTech team, who aided him in debugging and solving doubts over the course of two
days. The workshop, attended by 70 students of the college, aimed to cover concepts in computer
graphics such as creating and animating models in 3D, ascribing textures to models, generating
models of different materials and generating shadows.

TechTalks
9th February, 2016
TechTalks, a flagship event by DJ-ACM is considered by many as a platform provided to students
to interact with industry leaders and pioneers, and the people sitting at the helm of industry giants
such as AurionPro and DialHealth to name a few. This year’s offering showcased the co-chairman
of AurionPro, Mr Amit Sheth, the CEO of DialHealth, Mr Siddarth Shah, the dean of IT and E-
Business of the Wellingkar Institute of Management, Mr Pradeep Pendse, and a decorated IIT Bom-
bay professor who has published multiple papers on statistical mathematics, Mr Abhiram Ranade as
speakers for the afternoon. Each of the above illuminated how the industry works with their own
experience inlayed in the speech, and also answered various questions posed by the students attend-
ing, with Mr Pendse going as far as agreeing to give an interview for the ACM Annual Magazine,
Eccelenza. The event saw a total of 108 students in attendance, with a multitude of faculty members
from various departments as well as the principal Mr Hari Vasudevan and the HOD of the Comput-
er Department, Mr Narendra Shekokar.

D. J. Internship Fair
4th April, 2016
For the first time in the history of the college, D. J. Sanghvi organised its biggest event of the year,
the Internship Fair on the 4th of April, 2016. Internships widen a student's perspective as it gives the
student a platform to go beyond books and apply their knowledge practically. This opportunity was
open to all third year students of the college, and as seen by the overwhelming number of registra-
tions the Internship Fair was quite the success.
The Vice Principal cutting the ribbon, flagging the fair as officially open
Registering a footfall of 250, the fair saw various reputed companies recruiting from the vast pool
of students. After the Vice-Principal, Prof. Daptardar along with the T.P.O. Mr Khavekar flagged off
the event by cutting the ceremonial ribbon the Internship Fair began in full swing. Cerelabs, a com-
pany specialising in Artificial Intelligence research; Maquet, a leader in providing medical systems,
Specific, a Bio-Medical company working in Bio-Technologies and their development and Aegis, a
pioneer in global business services providing customer experience management; were the first to
begin their interviews. The students were briefed about the procedures, and resumes in hand, with
hopes in their hearts, they went ahead into the interviews. Each student was given an opportunity to
sit for three interviews, while each company interviewed over 70 students. Unilever, TCS and Al-
phaGrep accepted resumes which they would shortlist to further call prospective students for inter-
views.
After a short round of interviews, the officials from each company took a break at 1:00 PM to pro-
ceed with lunch, following which they started the second round of interviews, which went on till
5:30. The interviews were based on a variety of subjects not only regarding the internships but also
the applicant’s previous experience and ambitions. The interviewers were harsh, but fair, and made
the challenging task of interviewing multiple students seem effortless.
Maquet, Alphagrep and Specific also organised briefings for their respective companies, outlining
their work ethic and their environment of research and development. The briefings were aimed to-
wards making the applicants understand the quality of work expected and the need for dedication
for the company in terms of an internship.
The Internship fair was the highlight of a staggeringly successful year for ACM, which wound up
the year by winning the Best Student Chapter Award for the third year in a row the every next day.
The students were impressed and thankful to be provided with a platform to gain insights into prac-
tical applications of their knowledge.
Parallel Computing
22nd February, 2016
The ACM, CSI and IEEE student chapters of the college jointly organised the Parallel Computing workshop.
It was conducted by the GPU Centre of Excellence(GCOE), IIT-Bombay and organised by NVIDIA. The
workshop was designed to give students valuable insights into Parallel Scientific Computing and Embedded
Computing. The topics covered were Parallel computing using MATLAB, CUDA and OpenACC, and Em-
bedded Supercomputing. The workshop was attended by over 60 students from the college. The organisers
helped the students install MATLAB and helped them write code to showcase some parallel computing func-
tions and were also shown various simulations created using remote computing, including a simulation of
gravitational movement of stars. They were taught the importance of CUDA-enabled GPUs, and the power
they harness. CUDA is NVIDIA’s parallel computing architecture that enables dramatic increases in comput-
ing performance by harnessing the power of the GPU. Using such GPUs in various applications for heavy
computation has become commonplace for scientists and researchers. The students provided overwhelmingly
positive response to the workshop, with each one leaving the room more knowledgeable than they came in.
Industrial Visit
29th February 2016
DJ ACM believes in the principle that experience is the teacher of all things. With this view in
mind, ACM organised its annual Industrial Visit to Tata Consultancy Services, Pune on Monday
29th February 2016. The visit was aimed at giving students much needed practical exposure into
relevant applications in the field of computer science and providing them an insight to the everyday
happenings of a software giant. The IV was attended by 90 students from the Computer, Informa-
tion Technology and Electronics department of the college. The IV involved an introduction to the
TCS campus, and a seminar on the services offered by the company as well as a briefing on place-
ments scheme. The students are introduced to the woking environment, the social and recreational
life and the merits of TCS as an employer.
AMBI
8th-9th March, 2016
AMBI, standing for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data Integration. After con-
ducting resoundingly successful events like Tech Talks, the Django and Blender workshops, ACM
returned with AMBI, an event that served to inform the students about the varied fields that lie be-
fore them, and how to go about choosing their final year project topics. The aim of the event was to
make the students take a step back and widen their horizons , as well as guide them towards pre-
paring for a crucial step in their academics. The event was mainly meant for Third Year students,
who were getting ready to select their project topics as well as the stream they would be working
for the foreseeable future. The speakers for the event included guests from industry behemoths
IBM, who spoke about Big Data; Monik Pamecha, a Third Year student himself, talking on Crypto-
Currency; Kunal Kukreja, a Fourth Year student and winner of various international and national
coding competitions, talking on Game Theory and Saurabh Vaidya, another Fourth Year talking on
Machine Learning. The event was attended by 112 eager Third Year students and various faculty
members from the Computer Department, which ended in a brief discussion about topic selection
initiated by Prof. Kiran Bhowmick of the Computer Department.
Techathlon
12th-13th March, 2016
ACM and Trinity in collaboration presented Techathlon, a triathlon based on technology. Like a
triathlon, it consisted of three rounds of brain-racking questions and coding sessions. A total of 29
teams participated in the event, each team consisting of 2 members. The first round was a simple
treasure hunt with a tech twist, in which the contestants had to answer questions, and find answers
to special questions on the internet to proceed with the round. The second round was an algorithm
based code-chaining round, where the contestants were given a chain of three algorithms to solve,
with each algorithm connected to the previous algorithm, thus presenting a final answer. The final
round was a coding session with a constraint on the number of characters used, that is, code-golf.
The contestants with the code consisting of the least number of characters was declared as the win-
ner.

D. J. ASCII
2nd April, 2016
D. J. ASCII represents a joint effort by the student chapters of the Computer and the IT Depart-
ments, DJ-ACM and DJ-CSI for a project competition as well as an exhibition. It showcased the
variety of talent possessed by the students of both the departments and pitted the projects against
each other in a race to win the competition. The project displayed ranged from topics involving Ma-
chine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to applications of electronics in optical fields. The event
ended with a prize distribution with the HODs of both the departments facilitating the applicants as
well as the winners of the competition. The event was a display of the skill of D. J. Sanghvi stu-
dents as well as their perseverance, and their determination.
App Launch
23rd March
The Garbage Locator App, launched on the 23rd March of this year, is an attempt by the team at
DJ-ACM to commence an initiative in line with the Prime Minister’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’.
The application was launched under the banner of the MCGM, and aims to reduce the exposed solid
waste littered along Mumbai’s roads. This project, undertaken by the students of D. J. Sanghvi has
been seen as a massive success when tested in the Vile Parle area, and will be soon launched on a
city-wide basis. This initiative was created to draw attention to the role of each citizen in making
Mumbai a clean and green city, and how government organisations such as the MCGM can also
work in conjunction with concerned citizens to bring about change. The application was developed
in collaboration with Dr Pallavi Darade, the Additional Municipal Commissioner, who’s invaluable
inputs helped in making the final application. The app was also ratified by the local authorities with
the help of various BMC officials. The launch was attended by several eminent MCGM officials
and various media outlets.

Internships widen a student's perspective as it gives the student a platform to go beyond books and apply their knowledge practically. This opportunity was open to all third year students of the college, and as seen by the overwhelming number of registra- tions the Internship Fair was quite the success. The Vice Principal cutting the ribbon, flagging the fair as officially open Registering a footfall of 250, the fair saw various reputed companies recruiting from the vast pool of students. After the Vice-Principal, Prof. Daptardar along with the T.P.O. Mr Khavekar flagged off the event by cutting the ceremonial ribbon the Internship Fair began in full swing. Cerelabs, a com- pany specialising in Artificial Intelligence research; Maquet, a leader in providing medical systems, Specific, a Bio-Medical company working in Bio-Technologies and their development and Aegis, a pioneer in global business services providing customer experience management; were the first to begin their interviews. The students were briefed about the procedures, and resumes in hand, with hopes in their hearts, they went ahead into the interviews. Each student was given an opportunity to sit for three interviews, while each company interviewed over 70 students. Unilever, TCS and Al- phaGrep accepted resumes which they would shortlist to further call prospective students for inter- views. After a short round of interviews, the officials from each company took a break at 1:00 PM to pro- ceed with lunch, following which they started the second round of interviews, which went on till 5:30. The interviews were based on a variety of subjects not only regarding the internships but also the applicant’s previous experience and ambitions. The interviewers were harsh, but fair, and made the challenging task of interviewing multiple students seem effortless.
  • 5. Maquet, Alphagrep and Specific also organised briefings for their respective companies, outlining their work ethic and their environment of research and development. The briefings were aimed to- wards making the applicants understand the quality of work expected and the need for dedication for the company in terms of an internship. The Internship fair was the highlight of a staggeringly successful year for ACM, which wound up the year by winning the Best Student Chapter Award for the third year in a row the every next day. The students were impressed and thankful to be provided with a platform to gain insights into prac- tical applications of their knowledge. Parallel Computing 22nd February, 2016 The ACM, CSI and IEEE student chapters of the college jointly organised the Parallel Computing workshop. It was conducted by the GPU Centre of Excellence(GCOE), IIT-Bombay and organised by NVIDIA. The workshop was designed to give students valuable insights into Parallel Scientific Computing and Embedded Computing. The topics covered were Parallel computing using MATLAB, CUDA and OpenACC, and Em- bedded Supercomputing. The workshop was attended by over 60 students from the college. The organisers helped the students install MATLAB and helped them write code to showcase some parallel computing func- tions and were also shown various simulations created using remote computing, including a simulation of gravitational movement of stars. They were taught the importance of CUDA-enabled GPUs, and the power they harness. CUDA is NVIDIA’s parallel computing architecture that enables dramatic increases in comput- ing performance by harnessing the power of the GPU. Using such GPUs in various applications for heavy computation has become commonplace for scientists and researchers. The students provided overwhelmingly positive response to the workshop, with each one leaving the room more knowledgeable than they came in.
