Summer

Greetings to all students,
parents, staff and fellow
administrators.
I hope you all had an
exciting and productive
year, and I want to take
this opportunity to wish
you all an enjoyable,
relaxing and fun-filled
summer.
The District’s Administra-
tion and I are already
preparing for the coming
2015-16 school year, and
we are eager to launch
some of the new programs
slated for the 3 high
schools – East Orange
Campus High, Cicely L.
Tyson Middle/High, and
STEM Academy. A variety
of 12 CTE programs will
be introduced at EOCHS.
A list of the programs
being offered is outlined on
page 2 of this newsletter.
Of course, the District will
continue to implement
Instrumental and Vocal
Music at the Tyson
Middle/High School, and
STEM Academy will
continue to maintain the
CTE programs of: Science,
Mathematics, and the
Applied Sciences of
Engineering and Technolo-
gy.
We are excited for these
new ventures upon which
the District is embarking ,
and we hope you will join
the District’s bold steps
forward. I look forward to
seeing you next year, and
have a fabulous summer!

The Unified Marching Band is Moving
to EOCHS! group. The band has
readily supported and lent
its joyful beat to many
East Orange community
events, including the
City’s annual Memorial
Day Parade, “BJ’s Walk
for Hope” Asthma Walk,
numerous fairs and other
seasonal community
events.
This move will compliment
all the planned changes
for EOCHS next year, and also
add to the already existing music
programs offered at every school
in the District. The Unified
Marching Band is open to all
students from every school.
The East Orange
Unified Marching
Band will finally
have a permanent
home at EOCHS
this coming fall!
The band is inviting
as many talented,
young and aspiring
musicians to join
this accomplished

The East Orange School
District plans to implement
a diverse high school
programming at EOCHS this
fall with the Career and
Technical Education
(CTE) program.
During the 2015-16 school
year, the following 12 CTE

Campus High School.
Hopefully, many of you have been
following the stellar season EOCHS
athletes have been experiencing this
school year.
“East Orange Campus celebrated its
first ever victory at the Essex County
Championships in May, as it finished
ahead of then No. 19 Columbia and
then No. 16 Seton Hal Prep. As a
result, EO debuts at No. 11 in the Top
20 this week.” (NJ.com)

“It is the District’s vision to empower
students at Campus High, so that they
are college and career ready upon
graduation...we know the school has
been faced with challenges.
We aim to change that perception.”

Boys’ track, softball, baseball and
basketball teams had a terrific season,
proving they not only excelled as
students, but proved themselves
contenders in their respective fields as
well. The boys’ track and field enjoyed
a ranking of being in the top 20 in
Essex County.
The boys’ softball team had a 20-game
win record all season, trouncing every
team in Essex County they came up
against.
In addition, “two of East Orange's top
players from last season have found
their college homes. Guard Denzel
Banks will play at Monroe, a junior
college in Rochester, while Gregory
Robinson will be playing at Centenary
College, a Division III program located
in Hackettstown.” (NJ.com)

Dear Parents,
Again this year, our district elementary school librarians have selected book
titles for the 2015 Summer Readings for your child or children to enjoy.
Research has proven that the more students read, the more proficient they
become in reading and writing.
This year, you will find that the Award books have been added to the original
summer reading lists to enrich and provide diversity in summer reading. This
collection comes under the banner of Caldecott, Coretta Scott King and Pura
Belpre’ Award winning books. These books can be located in the East Orange
Public library. If the book titles are not available, other books are available
written by the identified authors. Of course, if all else fails, the librarian at the
East Orange Public Library will be able to assist your child and suggest
alternative titles.
Because it’s important to reinforce reading, thinking and creativity, a list of
Suggested Fun Independent Reading Activities are also included for your child’s
pleasure. These suggested activities will bring what your child has read to
another level of reasoning.
The entire reading list can be viewed at: http://toolbox1.s3-website-us-west-
2.amazonaws.com/site_0583/eastorange_summerreadinglist_060215.pdf
Thank you for your continued support as we work together in helping your
child to not only develop a love of reading, but the ability to think above
and beyond.
Sincerely,
Gloria C. Scott, Ed. D.
