Igor Zax, founder of Tenzor Ltd, ( www.tenzor.co.uk ) was presenting again at LBS (London Business School) with a guest lecture Distressed M&A –Supply Chains and Working Capital Solutions? , as part of a course “Mergers, MBOs and Other Corporate Reorganisations” 22 April 2010.

1) Researchers at UCLA have developed an ultra-slippery nano-engineered surface that overcomes the traditional assumption of no slip between a liquid and solid surface. 2) The surface consists of a dense forest of sharply tipped nanoposts that create a thick layer of air beneath liquid droplets and prevent the liquid from filling gaps, reducing friction. 3) Initial tests found the surface allows for slip lengths over 100 times greater than previous hydrophobic surfaces, with potential applications in reducing fluid drag.
The document describes using Bayesian networks called parameter dependence networks (PDNs) to model the behavior of vision systems over their parameter spaces. PDNs represent the dependencies between algorithm parameters as a directed graph, with nodes as parameters and links denoting direct dependencies. Conditional probabilities along the links capture these dependencies. The PDN structure and probabilities can be learned from data generated by stochastically sampling the parameter space. PDNs allow generating parameter sets, selecting parameters given constraints, and measuring parameter sensitivity and interdependence to analyze vision system behavior. The document demonstrates PDNs for several vision modules with varying numbers of parameters.
The document discusses maintaining physical health during law school. It notes that lawyers suffer from depression and alcoholism at higher rates than other professions. It provides tips for law students to exercise, including setting personal goals, starting small with activities like taking the stairs, joining a gym for accountability, and finding a workout partner. The author encourages students to use Southern University's recreation complex or other local gyms and workout videos. The goal is for law students to be healthy in both mind and body.

A novel drive method for high speed brushless IISTech2015
This document presents a novel drive method for high-speed brushless DC motors that operates over a wide speed range. It analyzes pulse-width modulation and pulse-amplitude modulation control methods and concludes that pulse-amplitude modulation is superior at high speeds due to reduced commutation delay and harmonics. A new hybrid drive method is proposed that combines pulse-width modulation and pulse-amplitude modulation. The method is analyzed using simulation tools and verified through hardware experiments and output measurements.
The vehicle inspection report summarizes the condition of a 1998 Nissan Lucino. The general condition of the vehicle is rated a grade 2, requiring some unplanned maintenance. Defects found include a low oil level requiring service and worn rear tires. Minor cosmetic defects are present on the exterior body panels and interior upholstery is burnt.

Alcoholic Liver Disease and Terlipressin use in Variceal bleedsmeducationdotnet
This document discusses a case study of a 55-year-old woman admitted with a variceal bleed from alcoholic liver disease. It then provides background on alcoholic liver disease, its complications including varices, and an overview of the evidence for terlipressin in treating variceal bleeding. The Cochrane review found that terlipressin reduces mortality compared to placebo in acute variceal hemorrhage, though more high-quality studies are needed comparing it to other treatments. Terlipressin is currently the best treatment that can be administered non-invasively.
Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to alcoholic liver disease (ALD), which progresses through three main stages: 1) Hepatic steatosis or fatty liver, which is reversible, 2) Alcoholic hepatitis characterized by hepatocyte damage and inflammation, and 3) Cirrhosis, the final irreversible stage involving liver fibrosis and formation of regenerative nodules. ALD is diagnosed based on excessive drinking history and lab tests showing abnormalities in liver function. Over time, if alcohol use continues, the disease progresses from an enlarged fatty liver to scarring and shrinkage of the liver in cirrhosis.
The liver has two lobes, separated by veins, and is divided into sections supplied by individual blood vessels. Blood flows through hepatic arteries and portal veins into sinusoids, where waste is filtered by Kupffer cells in the space of Disse before draining into hepatic veins. The liver performs many functions including synthesizing proteins, metabolizing carbohydrates and lipids, and detoxifying hormones and drugs. Liver function can be assessed through blood tests of enzymes and proteins.
Prompt withdrawal of the culprit drug is essential in managing toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). Wound care including sterile handling and antibiotics according to culture results are also important. Systemic steroids are contraindicated due to risk of infection and poor wound healing. Cyclosporine may provide a survival benefit but requires further study. A tumor necrosis factor inhibitor such as a single dose of etanercept can halt skin detachment and induce rapid healing in some cases.

Receivables Finance in the Context of Working Capital Management by Igor ZaxIgor Zax (Zaks)
Igor Zax, Managing Director of Tenzor Ltd, published a new article, Receivables Finance in Context of Working Capital Management in TRF News (Trade and receivable Finance News, a major publication by BCR).
Editorial comment states “Igor Zax’s article in today’s trfnews, ‘Receivables Finance in the Context of Working Capital Management’, reminds us of the value of looking back at the history of modern supply chains and how working capital management, and hence factoring and supply chain finance, has developed from this. It also reflects on the potential frailty and dangers that over exposure to some supply chain structures can bring.
On late payments he says: “just a couple of weeks delay on 30 day terms increases working capital consumption by one-and-a-half times.” I wonder how many factors use such direct terms in their advertising material. If they do not, perhaps they should consider it, particularly as the trend is for larger companies to use receivables finance, and it is those companies in particular that tend respond well to the use of such analytic sound bites.”
