Privacy on Wheels
Over the years cars have become safer, more powerful and much more intelligent. In a few years partly or fully autonomous driven cars will dominate the road. Communication from these cars are essential to optimize road use as is the case in intelligent transport systems (ITS). But rather than a future phenomenon already today cars are frequently equipped with SIM-cards that make it for example possible to automatically send emergency calls, a European, legal obligation as of March 2018 (eCall). The advantage of eCall is that in case of emergencies response time can be reduced and lives can be saved. At the same time, personal data from the car like location, number of passengers and driving behaviour of the user can be derived from the collected data by the car manufacturer. This may be a threat to privacy of the car users. In the study reported here we checked the awareness of users of vehicles equipped with such devices. This study shows that the majority of connected car users is not informed properly about the collection of high privacy sensitive data by manufacturers.

According to the OECD’s research on international bribery and corruption, most international bribes are paid by large companies, usually with the knowledge of senior management. Bribes are generally paid to win contracts from state-owned or controlled companies in advanced economies, rather than in the developing world, and most bribe payers and takers are from wealthy countries. Almost two-thirds of 400 cases analysed worldwide, occurred in just four sectors: extractive (19%); construction (15%); transportation and storage (15%); and information and communication (10%). Intermediaries, mostly agents or corporate vehicles, were involved in three out of four foreign bribery cases. This demonstrates the need for more effective due diligence and oversight of corporate compliance programmes. Governments should strengthen sanctions, make settlements public and reinforce protection of whistleblowers as part of greater efforts to tackle bribery and corruption.6
There are five key trends expected in the airline industry in 2010:
1. Increasing travel demand as passenger traffic is expected to reach 2007 levels.
2. Airline-supplier consolidation as airlines forge new direct connections with distributors to manage products and inventory.
3. A focus on environmentally-responsible aviation such as using biofuels and carbon offset programs.
4. Incentive trips for top company performers are increasing after declining in 2009.
5. Continued union challenges as unions push for more bargaining power which could increase airline operational costs.

According to STATS19, 2,946 (or 3%) of collisions involving injuries (fatal, serious and slight) in 2015 in GB involved some form of distraction from within the vehicle (RRCGB 2015, DfT, 2016)
