Sound Barriers: Analysis of Voice as a User Interface for Mobile Applications & Devices
Discussion Guide used for Interviews with experts during Qualitative Research July-Aug 2009
The survey aimed to understand consumer preferences and identify opportunities for an Android-based mobile device. It found that respondents want a reliable, affordable phone with no provider restrictions that has good multimedia and app capabilities. To successfully position an Android phone, the survey recommends pricing it competitively, including popular apps, and providing customizable features and services beyond the basic package. It also questions whether Google should offer two versions - one simple and one slightly more advanced.
This document discusses mobile research platforms and opportunities for conducting mobile surveys. It notes that smartphones have surpassed PCs in many households and that mobile devices offer advantages over SMS/text for research due to features like interactive formats, location data, and app-based models. The document proposes a custom mobile panel of 80,000 users that could generate $10-40k per month in revenue. It describes a partnership model where brands could co-brand a mobile research app and split revenues 70/30. Example partnership case studies are provided for a media company and education provider.
The document summarizes the consultant's work for a startup called ReefCam developing a mobile app to stream live HD video of coral reefs. The consultant focused on app design mockups, market research, and pricing/revenue models. Their recommendations were to prioritize iOS development over Android due to market share, offer a free app with limited content to attract more users, and use ad networks to monetize the app through advertising.

Mobile application development presents both challenges and opportunities. Developers must create applications that provide positive user experiences across different mobile devices, operating systems, and screen sizes. They also need to develop applications that can function with limited battery life and connectivity. However, mobile applications allow for easy integration of features like location tracking, video, and messaging that are difficult on desktops. Developers must understand user demands like seamless integration of hardware capabilities and payment options in order to satisfy the varying needs of different types of mobile users. Mobile application companies must design effective distribution channels to maximize the reach of their applications.
These slides discuss Network Effects, Platforms, Standards, and Complex Systems. All of these concepts continue to become more important as the digital economy progresses. Sponsored data and zero rate charging - Non-neutral mobile broadband modelsDean Bubley
Analysis & forecasts for two key types of application-based charging / non-neutral mobile Internet business models.
Zero-rating of mobile data is used to exempt certain applications or content from users' data plan quotas, and is used in both developing and mature markets. In essence, nobody pays for the data - although the mobile operator may work a revenue-share deal for paid content, or may look to upsell the users with more paid data access.
Sponsored data is similar, but involves the content/app provider paying for data traffic on behalf of the user. It has been popularised by AT&T's announcement in January 2014, although it has gained only limited traction so far.
This presentation, based on Disruptive Analysis' June 2014 on Non-Neutral Mobile Broadband models, examines the sub-segments and likely success factors for each type of offer.
Mobile Solutions: Challenging opportunitiesSimon Kibsgård
Presentation on how we work with mobile solutions in Creuna. Originally held for the Google Technology User Group in Denmark.
Covering both the business and the technology angle on mobile solutions.
The document describes a proposed mobile application to assist visually impaired users. The application would allow users to perform basic phone functions like reading messages, making calls, checking the time and date, and battery level through touch and voice inputs. It aims to provide these core capabilities through a single application, as most existing apps only focus on navigation. The system would use tap gestures as inputs and speech outputs to make smartphone usage easier for the visually impaired.
Exploring the right business strategy for open source mobile platformsAmanda Lam
As presented at the Hong Kong Open Source Conference.
"As presented in the HK Open Source Conference 2015.
The mobile industry has longer been dominated by two major ecosystems. While Windows and BlackBerry are fighting for the 3rd place in global market share, newcomers such as Firefox OS, Sailfish OS, TIZEN and Ubuntu on Phones are struggling to attract market attention and traction.
By performing strategic analysis on these platforms, certain critical success factors and how open source could help are identified and discussed."
