Jesus said His people are to be the "light of the world." How do we shine as bright lights to the world we live in? By our behavior, people can move from darkness to light; by our savior, knowing what Jesus did for them; our message of hope gives light to those in darkness.
DiscipleSHIFT: A Call to Entrepreneurial Ministrypenstalker
DiscipleSHIFT. We need ministry entrepreneurs and innovators. Through this presentation, I challenge Filipino United Methodists to get out of their comfort zone and into the world. Let's not forget our calling.
Based on the disciples' experience on Emmaus Road, life group participants can help bear each other, build each other up, and learn to accept each other (Romans 15:1-2, 5-7). Life groups are two or more followers of Jesus gathering each week to serve each other, share their struggles, and see more of Jesus moving in their lives.

A study on the meaning of Ekklesia in ancient Greek usage and Paul's usage. Look back at how the Acts believers gathered as the ancient Ekklesia and how their example informs our gatherings as the modern Ekklesia.
A study on Matthew 5:19-48 showing how Jesus revised the terms of the covenant, making the Old Covenant obsolete and presenting the terms of the New Covenant. "These commands" refer to Jesus' commands in the Sermon on the Mount and not to the laws of the Old Covenant.
How can we exceed the righteousness of the ultra-spiritual Pharisees? We can exceed their righteousness in reality, in depth and in motive! They say and do not, they clean the outside and not the inside, and they do deeds to be seen by men.

Sermon Slide Deck: "Your Will Be Done" (Matthew 6:5-13)New City Church
To pray, “Your will be done,” is to ask for the reign of God to become real both in our lives and in our world just as it is in heaven.

True Christianity will always be aggressive, and wherever it exists, it will arouse enmity. All who live a conscientious life, who bear testimony of the claims of God, of the evil of sin, of the judgment to come, will be called the disturbers of Israel. {PC 146.2}
If we will consent to lay down our arms, to lower the blood-stained banner, to become the captives and servants of Satan, we may be released from the conflict and the suffering. But this peace will be gained only at the loss of Christ and heaven. We cannot accept peace on such conditions. Let it be war, war, to the end of earth's history, rather than peace through apostasy and sin.
If unity could be secured only by the compromise of truth and righteousness, then let there be difference, and even war. {GC88 45.2}
Those who in harmony with God, and through faith in Him, receive strength to resist wrong, and stand in defense of the right, will always have severe conflicts and will frequently have to stand almost alone. But precious victories will be theirs while they make God their dependence. Their moral sense will be keen, clear, and sensitive. Their moral powers will be equal to withstand wrong influences. Their integrity, like that of Moses, of the purest character.
Honesty is so difficult that we even struggle being honest with ourselves, as exemplified by Saul and David. Paul gives us for points that help us toward honesty: 1) We are not to be like the world; 2) We are now like Christ; 3) We are brethren; and 4) Be prepared to do good for others.
An important part of parenting is to nurture children into the call of God for their lives, establish the importance of being part of a local church and to serve the purposes of God's Kingdom. This message provides practical instructions towards these.

On Father's Day, we celebrate the greatest Father of all, the One who is ever faithful to us. Beginning with the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-24), going through John's writings on how Jesus and the Father are one (John 14:10) and how they dwell in each other, and then coming back to the faithfulness of our Father in heaven illustrated by the parable, the message showed the great love of the Father for all of us and how we encounter him through Jesus.
Encountering Jesus: Through the Holy SpiritRuel Guerrero
Jesus breathe on the disciples after his resurrection to receive the Holy Spirit. But he also told them before he ascended to wait for the Father's gift, the infilling of the Holy Spirit. When Pentecost came, the prophecy of Joel was fulfilled and the disciples were empowered to preach the Gospel throughout the world (Acts 2:1-21).
A study on the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and how she treasured events in the life of Jesus from birth, wavered a bit during His ministry, eventually stood at the cross weeping for her son, was entrusted to John, the closest of Jesus' disciples (John 19:25-27), and now stands as a model for all mothers. The story reflects the mother-heart of God and his unconditional love for all mankind. It enjoins older women to care for the younger generation in the Church and the younger generation to look after the the older women in the Church.
Encountering Jesus on the road to Emmaus, and the lesson we can learn from the two disciples' experience. Encouragement to be open in encountering Jesus on our life journey, and a call to get involved in Emmaus Road Life Groups.
A study in the multiple contrasts presented in Matthew 7:13-29. Contrasts made were between the wide gate and narrow gate, bad tree and the good tree, foolish builder and the wise builder, and the teachers of the Law and Jesus. Finally, a call is made to follow the Way.
A study on Matthew 7:1-12 which illustrates the Father's traits of looking at the heart (instead of one's appearance) and giving us grace (gifts that are good for us). This presentation puts the two passages on judging and asking together to illustrate the Father's eternal characteristics.
A study on Matthew 6:19-34 showing how our heart, motivation and focus should be on the Kingdom and how our trust in the Father's promise to provide for all our needs ought to lead to giving to the poor.
A study on Matthew 6:1-18 where Jesus contrasted the practices of the Pharisees which amounted to hypocrisy and the practices he taught which developed intimacy with the Father.
A study on Matthew 5:17-18, how Jesus came to fulfill the Law, the Writings, and the Prophets and thereby paying in full (tetelestai) all our debts on the cross and emancipating us so we can be free to follow Him and be citizens of the Kingdom of God.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
