This document outlines disability competencies that are being introduced into the medical education curriculum in India. It discusses the need for disability competencies due to the large population of people with disabilities. It describes the eight disability competencies that have been defined under the five roles of an Indian medical graduate based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. Suggested teaching learning methods are provided for each competency, including lectures, case discussions, simulations, and visits to disability units.
