Safeguarding Children Online. Training from Stephen Carrick-Davies for Southw...Stevecd
Presentation on Safeguarding children online produced and presented by Stephen Carrick-Davies to the Diocese of Southwark. This training presentation was for a 3 hour session and looked at key issues of
Understadaning the reality
Understadngin the risks
Understanding our responsibilities.
Turning the Corner: From Cybersafety to Digital Citizenship Catherine Hainstock
Presentation: Catherine Hainstock, Vermont Secondary College.
School communities are dealing with increasing reports of cyberbullying and online safety issues, with increased media coverage, conflicting information and statistics sometimes clouding the issue of best practice. Teacher Librarian and internet advocate, Catherine Hainstock, was recently invited to attend the National Cyber-safety Summit in Canberra with two students and their parents. In this session she shares what she learnt at the summit along with some of her school’s steps, strategies and plans to educate the school community about digital citizenship now and in the future.
The Overall Goal of Safe Social Media is:
Reduce exposure to violence for children and adolescents through Social Media.
In order to solve some of these problems we have created Safe Social Media an educational project “to navigate without drowning”.
Our efforts will be oriented to create an online network of youth organizations, educational institutions, parents associations, media companies and other stakeholders, in order to establish a multidirectional and intergenerational dialogue on these issues.
IAO publishes the White Paper for the month of April, 2017. In this White Paper you will read about Cyberbullying, a new emerging issue in schools around the world and what role can educators play in dealing with the offenders.

ids have been bullying each other for gener-
ations. The latest generation, however, has
been able to utilize technology to expand
their reach and the extent of their harm. This phe-
nomenon is being called cyberbullying, defined as:
“willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use
of computers, cell phones, and other electronic de-
vices.” Basically, we are referring to incidents where
adolescents use technology to harass, threaten, hu-
miliate, or otherwise hassle their peers. For exam-
ple, youth can send hurtful text messages to others
or spread rumors using smartphones or tablets.
Teens have also created web pages, videos, and
profiles on social media platforms making fun of
others. With mobile devices, adolescents have tak-
en pictures in a bedroom, a bathroom, or another
location where privacy is expected, and posted or
distributed them online. Others have recorded un-
authorized videos of other kids and uploaded them
for the world to see, rate, tag, and discuss. Still oth-
ers are embracing anonymous apps or chat func-
tionality on gaming networks to tear down or hu-
miliate others.
What are some negative effects that cyber-
bullying can have on a person?
There are many detrimental outcomes associated
with cyberbullying that reach into the real world.
First, many targets report feeling depressed, sad,
angry, and frustrated. As one teenager stated: “It
makes me hurt both physically and mentally. It
scares me and takes away all my confidence. It
makes me feel sick and worthless.” Those who are
victimized by cyberbullying also reveal that they are
often afraid or embarrassed to go to school. In ad-
dition, research has revealed a link between cyber-
bullying and low self-esteem, family problems, aca-
demic difficulties, school violence, and various de-
linquent behaviors. Finally, cyberbullied youth also
report having suicidal thoughts, and there have
been a number of examples in the United States
and abroad where youth who were victimized end-
ed up taking their own lives.
Where does cyberbullying commonly occur?
Cyberbullying occurs across a variety of venues and
mediums in cyberspace, and it shouldn’t come as a
surprise that it occurs most often where teenagers
congregate. Initially, many kids hung out in chat
rooms, and as a result that is where most harass-
ment took place. In recent years, most youth are
have been drawn to social media (such as Insta-
gram, Snapchat, and Twitter) and video-sharing
sites (such as YouTube). This trend has led to in-
creased reports of cyberbullying occurring in those
environments. Voice chat, textual chat, and texting
via phones or tablets also can provide an environ-
ment in whi.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.

identity-damaging words in the digital age.
Government legislates that schools have
educational programs for youth and faculty.
Support groups offer programs, resources,
and online forums to share youths’ creative

6. STATS BEHIND BULLYING
⌃160,000 bullied kids miss school each day
⌃280,000 kids are physically attacked each day
4,500 teens
commit suicide each year
every
7 min
a child is
bullied on the
playground
Cyberbullying victims almost
twice as likely to attempt
suicide compared to youth
who do not experience it
Concern/severity increased over past 20 yrs; factors include:
• Larger classrooms and budgetary cuts in school (less time for teacher’s to connect with students)
• Break-down of family structure (stable environment), parent involvement, and parents not willing to take
responsibility for their children’s actions or discipline – can even encourage behavior
• Decrease in social skill development, such as empathy, teamwork, leadership, and communication
• Overexposure to social media (over sharing opens the door to bullying)

To make a point about bullying, video gets shorter every time you share it on Facebook;

9. HYPOTHESIS:
Employing visual empathy can create online
communities that engage with youths more
intimately, making anti-bullying messages
relatable to this audience. Building user
experiences that cater to the youth will
encourage participation, and deeper, more
personal connections, anonymously; striving
to offer more intimate support platforms to
elicit empathy with one another, gain
acceptance, and lull bullying’s effects.
