Digitalization of cargo handling processes at Schiphol Airport through a project called eLink was shown to provide significant improvements in efficiency and effectiveness. eLink allows for paperless cargo documentation and pre-arrival checks through use of smart cards and digital interfaces. Research showed eLink reduced throughput times, wait times, and labor costs. It also improved data integrity, sustainability, and provided benefits for further digitalization projects. Critical factors for success included high participation rates, cooperation, and reliable systems.
