This document discusses four approaches to unpublishing Sitecore items: 1. Changing the publishing setting to "never publish". 2. Changing the publishing restriction setting. 3. Using the "Unpublish Field" under the Publishing section. 4. Deleting the item directly from the target database.

Introduction
Unpublishingmeansdisappearthe item/page fromfrontendsite whichmeansdeletethe itemfrom

Steps:
1. Go to the itemthatwishestounpublished:
2. Checkthe standard fieldcheckboxinview tabinstecore ribbon.
3. Go to publishingsection
4. SelectneverpublishcheckboxW3

6. Itemwill delete/Unpublishedfromtargetdatabase

In this approach we will change publishrestriction settingof item
Steps:
1. Go to the item
2. Go to Publishtab> Change button>
3. Unselectpublishablecheckbox >Ok>
4. Publishthe item(withsmartpublish)
5. Itemwill delete/Unpublishedfromtargetdatabase

In this approach, we will delete/unpublishthe itemfrom unpublishfieldprovidedinpublishing
section,kindlyfollowthe belowstepsto unpublishthe itemfrom this approaches:
Steps:
1. Go to the itemthatwishestounpublished:
2. Checkthe standard fieldcheckboxinview tabinstecore ribbon.
3. Go to publishingsection
4. Go to PublishField, ClickonClearbuttoninpublish field,if anyvalue exists.
5. Go to UnPublishFieldandclick onNowbutton
6. Publishthe item(withsmartpublish)
7. Itemwill delete/Unpublishedfromtargetdatabase

Approch4. Delete the Item from Target Database
Thisis juststraightforwardapproach,sometime the situationoccur, whenwe needtodelete/unpublish
the itemwithoutrunningthe publishingwizard,inthatcase we can directlydeletethe itemfromtarget
database.
Steps
1. Change the database > usingdatabase selectororfrom querystring(appendthisonendof the
url “&database =web”)
2. Selectthe itemsthatneedtodelete
3. Delete the item

10. Unpublish the sitecore Item
Note:one problemthat I can see with the approach 4 is that, item will delete inthe target database
but still existin Indexfile (Lucene or solr) and itemcan searchable through search.
The solutionis to delete the itemfrom indexas well;you can followmy one of the blogfor the same
