The Ukrainian Diabetic Federation organized the first International Football Championship for people with diabetes called DIAEURO in 2012 in Kiev, Ukraine. The goal was to show that diabetes does not prevent people from enjoying sports. It has since grown into an annual event hosted in a different European country each year, with over 12 countries and hundreds of athletes participating. The tournaments aim to raise awareness of diabetes and the importance of physical activity for management, while bringing the diabetes community together through sport.

2. The initiators and organizers of the Football
Championship for people with diabetes was the
Ukrainian Diabetic Federation.
DIAEURO is a unique social project that aims to
raise awareness of the global problem of diabetes in
Ukraine and worldwide!
The idea of competition among people with diabetes​​
is to show that this disease does not put an end to
the sporting life, the dreams of those living with
diabetes.

3. Physical activity is a key element in the
prevention and management of
diabetes.
High-quality studies establishing the
importance of exercise and fitness in
diabetes were lacking until recently,
but it is now well established that
participation in regular physical
exercises improves blood glucose
control and can prevent or delay
diabetes, along with positively affecting
lipids, blood pressure, cardiovascular
events, mortality, and quality of life.
Many people with diabetes still do not
know if they can go in for sport and
enjoy their sports life as they usually
did…

4. During the 2011-2012 Ukrainian Diabetic
Federation was actively holding promo campaign
at the international level
the General Assembly, (Dubai),
EASD (Lisbon Portugal),
IDF Meeting of the Eastern European region
(Erevan, Armenia)

6.  In 2012 in Kiev (Ukraine) the first International
Football Championship for people with diabetes
"DIAEURO 2012” has been held.

7. The project was supported by
the International Diabetes Federation (IDF),
the Football Federation of Ukraine ,
Organizing Committee of EURO2012,
Kyiv City Sports Organization “Spartak»,
Football Association of Disabled of Ukraine,
 Kyiv City State Administration,
Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration,
SANOFY, INDAR, Roche Ukraine
Vinnytsia Endocrinology dispensary,
Foundation "Healthy Nation ".

8.  The winning team was the team of Croatia,
Slovakia take second place. the Ukrainian team
won the bronze medal.

10.  The success of the first tournament has promoted
the continuation of a project.
 Under the terms of the Championship, the torch of "
DIAEURO " took
the Croatian Diabetes Association.

11. DIAEURO 2013
On 26-31 August 2013 in the city of Zadar (Croatia)
the second International Mini-football Championship for
people with diabetes "DIAEURO 2013" was conducted.

12.  The project was joined by other countries - 12 participating
countries (Slovakia, Belgium, Serbia, Italy, Romania,
Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and
,Croatia) and 2 were in reserve (Malta, Russia).

13.  The winners of the tournament was the team of
Hungary, vice-champion (second place) - Portugal's
team and the third place was the team of Croatia.
