Small children who have died, known as "angelitos", follow a path of marigolds home to visit their altars on October 31st. On November 1st, the angelitos depart and adults who have passed come to be celebrated, with traditional foods of tamales, mole, pan de muertos, and tequila. On November 2nd, the adult spirits leave as well, though stubborn spirits who refuse to depart are pushed out by people wearing masks.
