Zander Cordan seeks a position in geological excellence and has extensive experience in geology. He has conducted undergraduate research interpreting volcanic ash samples and observing crystal content. Cordan also participated in a geology field camp involving hiking, mapping, and sample collection. Most recently he has held internships with the Geologic Survey of Alabama involving GIS software, core inventory, and identifying methane deposits. Cordan maintains a 3.54 GPA in geology from the University of Alabama and has additional experience in admissions and concessions management.

ZANDER CORDAN
Objective
· To obtain a position with an organization dedicated to geological excellence.
Geology Experience
· Undergraduate Research
August 2014 to May 2015
University of Alabama- Tuscaloosa, AL
Responsible for interpreting forty volcanic ash samples.
- Separated the ash samples through increasingly smaller sieves to separate out each grain size
- Each grain size was carefully collected and scanned for miscellaneous organic material which was bagged
and taken out of each sample.
- The remaining sample was bottled, weighed, and recorded into Microsoft excel for later observation.
Responsible for observing selected ash sizes for determine the crystal content
- Samples were placed in a weigh boat under a microscope where 100 particles were counted to
determine the amount of crystals, ash, and lithics present.
· Geologic Field Camp
May 2014 to July 2014
University of Alabama- Abiquiu, NM, Taos, NM, Silverton, CO, and Great Sand Dunes National Park
Camped at geologic sites for days to weeks at a time in the Field
- Experience in hiking and trekking through all kinds of difficult terrain in all conditions to
obtain measurements and samples of geologic features.
- Experience in taking geologic measurements with brunton compass gathering strike/dip of
geologic beds to determine what geologic process affected these particular geologic units.
- Experience in taking GPS location and using compass to locate position on topographical map.
Experience in recognizing geologic features.
- Used rock hammer, geologic hand lens, grain size card and mineral composition card to
determine what each geologic unit consisted of.
Experience in interpreting topographic maps, and scientific report writing.
- This course required, after all project areas were completed, to place all the information gathered
into detailed scientific reports, graphs, and maps.
- Have experience in making detailed cross sections of the 3d field area and placing it on a 2d
graph to display the accurate position of geologic units.
- This required use of Microsoft excel, word, arcgis, gps systems.
• Geomorphology Field Study
August 2015-December 2015
University of Alabama- Tuscaloosa, AL
Required for class to go out and measure a local stream water flow over the course of several months.
- Used flow velocity meters to measure the water speed along different parts of the stream to gain
the overall velocity of the water and the overall flow capacity of the stream.
- Also measured the width and depth of the sections of the stream to accurately try and display the
overlying geology of the stream bed.
Professional Experience
· Geologic Internship
May 2015 to July 2015
Geologic Survey of Alabama –Tuscaloosa, AL
Responsible for using Petra/GIS software to fix geologic units in Alabama covered up due to geologic
software incompatibilities.
- This required attention to detail to spot areas within the state geologic map that were improperly
imported and were not properly displayed.
2. -This required knowledge of the PETRA software to go in and fix each individual unit that was
covered and look to see what geologic unit should be actually shown.
Also responsible for Inventorying and data logging geologic cores.
-Was required to locate and analyze geologic cores for the Geologic survey of Alabama
- Examined each core, determined its condition, the type of rock present, and the length
of the core and logged this information into a database for the survey.
- Also determined if the core was whole, partial, or broken.
Responsible for implementing geologic stops for Coal Bed Methane deposits in Alabama.
· Lower Management (Staff Leader)
January 2009 to November 2015
Carmike Cinemas – Franklin, TN
Responsible for overseeing employees and training new employees.
Knowledge of money, inventory, and concession operations.
Customer service experience.

August 2012 to May 2013
Undergraduate Admissions - University of Alabama -Tuscaloosa, AL
Answered call back phone and took messages for admissions counselors.
Sorted admissions paperwork, applications, transcripts, and other mail.
Responsible for printing and sending out acceptance letters.
