Branding Southern California Wildfires An awareness campaign for the United States Geological Survey  A Designmatters and Graphic Design Studio at Art Center College of Design Pasadena, California

Context:  The USGS Multi-Hazards Demonstration Project improves resiliency to natural disasters by applying science to community decision-making and emergency response. Catastrophic wildfires are a regular reality in Southern California, public education and engagement is critical to minimize community vulnerability.
Project:  the Wildfire Studio conducted  extensive research with USGS scientists to create a multi-tiered visual approach to wildfire prevention. The campaign’s primary audience are communities living at wildlife/urban interfaces in Southern California, identified as the most vulnerable to wildfires—and also key actors in preventing them.
Design Role : Several distinct identities and marketing strategies emerged, each are multi-tiered approaches utilizing various traditional and non-traditional vehicles for messaging to maximize public education.  Some incorporated real-time scientific data to best enhance emergency response on the community level. More information at designmattersatartcenter.org
