Thoughts such as, what does a desire mean, what it is all about and what its different facets are, may enable the facilitator understand it better. Some such thoughts about desires are given below.)
1. Desire is an aspiration to achieve something.
2. Desire is a wish to own or possess something that is not currently with us.
3. Desire is a want; a craving.
INTENT
(The objective of the facilitation process is to help each participant explore the topic for himself, individually and independently. Following are some of the objectives of the session.)
1. To understand what is desire
2. To analyse whether desires are necessary
3. To analyse whether desires limit a person or expand the person
4. To explore whether one’s desires impact oneself, people, nature and environment, things or situations
5. To analyse what happens when desires are fulfilled, when desires are not fulfilled

2. What are the various desires that one may have?
3. What does a person do to fulfil his desires?
4. What are the positives and negatives of desires?
5. What could be the effect of desires getting fulfilled?
6. What could be the effect of a desire not getting fulfilled?
7. Is it possible not to have desires? Why do you think so?
8. How different would life be without desires and the disappointments

Once upon a time, there
lived a merchant.
4. But he was not sure
if his sons
were competent
to use the money
wisely…
So, he decided to test his sons.
One day, as he was sitting alone,
he realized that his wealth must be divided
among his sons..
5. He asked
his three sons
to come
to the library
and wait there
for him…
While waiting in the library,
the sons started discussing what they would do
if they got their father’s money…
6. The oldest one said, "As soon as I get his money,
I will go on a world tour.
I will never have to work in my life again.“
The second one said, "I will buy race horses
and the fastest cars.”
The youngest son said, "I only hope
that our father lives a long life.
There is so much that I want to learn from him."
7. Just then the library door opened
and their old father came in.
He was accompanied by a lawyer.
The old man said, "My dear sons, I have decided
to divide my most valuable things
among you three while I am still alive.”
8. He turned to his elder son and said,
“I will give my precious diary to you.
It contains the names of all
my business associates and
details about my business dealings.”
9. “Whenever I saw it,
it gave me courage and hope.”
Then he turned to
his second son and
said, “I will leave
this picture of
my wedding
to your mother.”
10. For you my little son,
“I will leave my desktop clock.
It has been showing me time
for the past 25 years.”
11. Both the two older sons got angry
and threw what their father gave them…
13. Father saw him doing this and said,
“Open the diary and the frame of the photo, my son”
Younger son took both the things
thrown by his elder brothers in his hands.
14. He opened the diary.
A 5 Lakh cheque was stapled to the first page!!
Another 5 Lakh cheque was behind the photograph
and the frame!!
