Thoughts such as, what does an insult mean, what it is all about and what its different facets are, may enable the facilitator understand it better. Some such thoughts about insults are given below.)
1. Insults are offending words or gestures which may hurt people or other beings.
2. Insult means treating a person with disrespect, indignity, rudeness and bad words.
3. Insults tend to hurt people’s emotions and feelings.
INTENT
(The objective of the facilitation process is to help each participant explore the topic for himself, individually and independently. Following are some of the objectives of the session.)
1. To understand what is insult
2. To analyse whether insult impacts oneself, people nature and environment, things or situations.
3. To explore whether one needs to respond to an insult
4. To analyse whether insult needs to be/can be avoided

1. What are insults?
2. What is the effect of insults on the person insulted and on the person insulting?
3. What is the aim of an insult? Are they directed towards a person or an aspect?
4. How does one feel when he is insulted?
5. How does one feel when he is insulting someone?
6. How can a person manage a situation wherein he is being insulted?
7. What could be the approach towards a person who insulted us or whom we have insulted?
3. It all started with a drive to the airport, to pick up
a friend.
My friend and I had booked a cab from an agency.
The agency had sent a driver who was new to the
city.
As a result, he was
driving slowly and
goofed up a twice by
taking the wrong
route.
4. My friend soon began to
lose his calm.
He phoned the agency and
blasted them for sending an
inexperienced driver.
He also kept on nagging the
driver.
5. The driver was a young lad and my friend’s
behaviour made him jittery.
He jumped the signal twice and rammed into a
car at a turning.
We were getting terribly late and I tried to calm
the driver by encouraging him.
But my friend went on and on with his nagging
business.
6. This put me off and I asked the driver to stop.
I opened the door of the car, pulled my friend
out and gave him a sound hearing; right in the
middle of the road... Everyone was watching me
yell at my friend...
For sometime he stared at me , trying to figure
out what I just did to him.
It took me a moment’s time to regain my calm.
7. But by the time I realized my
mistake and called out to my
friend, he had already started
walking away.
He had felt insulted...
He has never responded to my
calls or messages, since.
