Beyond Wordpress - How to Launch a Website in One DayCharlotte Han
Weebly, Squarespace, Jimdo and Wix and some great choices other than Wordpress that will help you quickly build a site and easily manage yourself. I'll compare them side by side with the pros and cons to help you make smart decisions, whether you're launching a blog, ecommerce store or a portfolio site.
The machines are coming! RankBrain is an AI Google uses to serve better search results based on search intent. How is AI going to change SEO as we know it, and what can marketers do to stay ahead?
MIMA 2014 - Changing your Responsive Design Workfloweaselsolutions
Presentation slides from Dustin Tauer's 2014 MIMA Session:
What is your Web workflow? If your situation mirrors that of most organizations, the process often begins with some initial planning and discovery, followed by the design phase. In the design phase, Photoshop is opened and wireframes evolve into static designs. Once approved, these designs are passed to the developer which leads to testing, tweaking, and finally, launch. This workflow is great for traditional websites, but major evolution is needed to account for the changing landscape that is responsive design.
This session will present different strategies and processes for effectively designing and developing responsive websites. We’ll look at how taking a content-first approach rather than a design-first approach can significantly reduce the number of issues and iterations throughout the process. With mobile traffic quickly surpassing desktop traffic, a new workflow process is imperative to helping us be better prepared for the constantly changing device landscape.
Website Design for 2012: Customer Focused WebsitesMichael Flint
Website design is all about the process. From branding, to target audiences, to choosing the right calls-to-action. Also discuss S.E.O., social integration, and promoting your site once it goes live.

If there are folks in the room using Illustrator or PSD, I'll show you how to set up Illustrator files for web design and prep files for a developer.
Layer Drupal with emerging technologies to create a performant, scalable data purveyor. Modularizing the architecture creates performant applications for all content and all users.
Currently, the most common way to programmatically access Topic Maps data is the use of a Topic Maps API, like TMAPI. Another approach, besides the use of a query language like TMQL, is the encapsulation of the Topic Maps related code in domain-specific model classes. This concept is similar to object-relational mapping (ORM) which encapsulates access to a relational database inside the model classes. These techniques decouple the data store specific code from the business logic. For ORM, there are several prevalent design patterns, most notable the Active Record pattern by Fowler. For Topic Maps, no such pattern is established. This paper introduces Active Topic Maps, a pattern for topic maps -- object mapping, the domain-specific language ActiveTMML to define such a mapping and a prototypical implementation, called ActiveTM. ActiveTM is based on Ruby Topic Maps and also supports the generation of web-formulars based on ActiveTMML definitions. This full-featured software stack greatly improves the development productivity of Topic Maps based portals compared to other solutions.
Designing better user interfaces sets out to teach interface design by talking through concrete examples: what works, what doesn’t work. A good interface consists of a thousand details done right. This presentation is all about those details.
There is often a vocabulary gap between designers an developers, who should aim towards a ubiquitous way of conversing about colours, typography, viewport sizes, or the responsive grid system of a digital product… To bridge this gap at the Guardian, we use a CSS pre-processor as a communication enabler through the abstractions it allows us to put in place.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
