Depth of field refers to the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image. Photos with a small depth of field have a shallow depth of field where the subject is emphasized at the expense of the rest of the photograph, while photos with a large depth of field have practically the entire image in sharp focus.
