2. Introduction
 Dengue fever also known as break bone fever .
 Is an infection tropical disease caused by the dengue virus.
 Dengue is endemic in more then 110 countries .
 It infects 50-100 million people world wide a year, leading to half a million
hospitalization and approximately 12500-25000 death .
 Dengue has become a global problem since the second world war and is endemic
in more then 110 countries.
 Dengue fever virus (DENV) is an (RNA) virus of the family Flaviviridae , Genus
flavivirus
 There are four type of virus , which are called SEROTYPES .

3. transmission
 Dengue is transmitted by several species of mosquito with in the genus added and principally A. aegypti.
 An infection can be acquired via a single bite .
 A female mosquito that takes a blood meal from a person infected with dengue fever becomes it self
infected with the virus the cells lining(endothelial cells)its guts.
 About 8-10 days in later, the virus spreads to other tissue including the mosquito salivary gland and
subsequently released in its saliva.

4. mechanism
 When a mosquito carrying dengue virus bites a person.
 The virus enter the skin together with the mosquitos saliva.
 In severe infection , the virus production inside the body is greatly increased and many more
organs.(such as the liver and the bone marrow) can be affected.

7. Sign and symptoms
 Asymptomatic or mild symptoms such as an uncomplicated fever (80%)
 More severe illness (5%)
 In small proportion it is life threating
 The incubation period(time between exposure and on set of symptoms ) ranges from 3-14 days but most
often it is 4-7 days.
 Headache
 Sudden on set fever .
 Muscle and joint pains, and a rash
 Dengue haemorrhagic fever
 Resulting in bleeding ,low levels of blood platelets.
 Dengue shock syndrome (low BP).

9. Warning sign
 Abdominal pain
 Ongoing vomiting
 Lever enlargement
 mucosal bleeding
 Lethargy

10. diagnosis
 Physical examination
 Dengue fever rapid test
 Low blood cell count
 C.B.C.
 IgG and IgM

11. management
P.C.M. for fever
Oral rehydration therapy
Intravenous fluid
Blood transfusion

12. prevention
 Reducing open collection of water through environmental modification.
 People can prevent mosquito bites by wearing clothing that fully covers skin.
