I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A. PROJECT PLAN
. Before the Community Immersion Program was held, we made
plans and specified what outreach activities would be
implemented. Level II of BSPT’s role in the program is to
provide lecture about some of the basics about health care.
Each member of the group was also given an assigned task to
contribute for the efficiency and success of the program
Every meeting is a brainstorming session wherein every members
exchange ideas and thoughts, and it was a time for the leaders
to mentally prepare each member by running through what
they will be doing during the program.
Every members of the group cooperatively
began researching about the assigned topic.
Mr. Examen then set a date for the submission
of the presentation which everyone worked
diligently with. He checked and examined
carefully the contents of the presentations
that would be delivered by each group, even
before our dry run, and also helped us in
editing the contents of our presentations.
He set a date for the dry run of the
presentations of each group in preparation for
the program.
These are the plans and preparations we
worked hard to achieve a successful
Community Immersion Program.
B. PURPOSE
Immersion by definition is complete
involvement: involvement in something that
completely occupies all the time, energy, or
concentration available.
Community immersion is a version of service
learning that is more integrated with a
student’s passion and interests, is longer-term
and is related to the on-going development of
community.
Community immersion program fulfilled many
of the school’s goals for students – becoming
involved citizens, learning through worthwhile
tasks, and developing leadership, advocacy
and problem-solving skills. It also provided
another avenue for Physical Therapy students
to discover new interests and reach out to the
general public.
Community Immersion Program in Brgy. Santa
Clara Sur, Pila, Laguna is a program of the
Emilio Aguinaldo College – Cavite School of
Physical Therapy for the marginalized members
of its adopted community which hopes to
promote basic health education to positively
influence the health behavior of individuals
and communities as well as the living and
working conditions that influence their health.
This program provides the residents, especially
the elders with disabilities of the community,
various lectures on first-aid, basic wound care
and hand hygiene. This program also helps
them to obtain additional knowledge about
their health and proper procedures that
concern their welfare.
The EAC-C School of PT uses the principles of
community organizing process as a guide in its
immersion programs. It fully recognizes the
dynamism and the culture of a given
community. EAC-C School of PT considers the
community as partners in development and
not as mere recipient of any given project or
beneficiaries for any welfare programs.
For this, it tries to go beyond mere extension
work. More than the belief that the
communities are resources for the students'
acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitude;
students of School of Physical Therapy are
given a chance to immerse themselves in the
very situation of the people, hence, it tends to
be totally in one with the people.
