Students Deliver at Civics Day with Stunning Action Plans
SMITHSONIAN’S NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN – Tuesday, December 10th
Students from all corners of New York City came together to present their action plan to judges and visitors.
After a semester of building coalition and working deliberately on community issues, students finally had the
opportunity to present their work to an audience. Students shared their projects and observed what other
classes have been working on throughout the semester.
For many Democracy Coaches, Civics Day is a capstone of the entire semester, where they have the chance to
see how much their students have gathered from the experience.
Our very own Jamilla Van Dyke-Bailey adds, “I liked working with kids and practicing the best way to
educate the youth. The overall experience had its ups and downs but for the most part it was a learning
experience for me. I learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses as a student, educator, facilitator, and co-
worker.”
Congratulations to Chanda Daniels and Grace Reilley and their students for winning the Change-Maker award
during Civics Day.

2. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5TH
– Generation Citizen at Pace University hosted its final event for Fall 2013—
Grassroots Movement Gallery: A look at Movements Throughout the decades.
The gallery featured work submitted by Pace University students regarding the Civil Rights Movement, Environmental
Movement, Immigration Movement, and LGBTQA Movement. Attracting more than forty visitors, this was
Generation Citizen at Pace University’s most successful event to date.
Works submitted included poems, art pieces, written research, and photographs. The event was successful due in part
to several departments’ participation and collaboration with Generation Citizen at Pace University.

Grace Reilly
Grace is from Philadelphia and enjoys painting
and drawing. This is her first semester at Pace
University and Generation Citizen is the only
club she is currently involved with.
Rebecca is from China and this is her first semester at
Pace University. In China, she was the head of her
school’s Student Union (Student Government) and
played an active role in giving back to the community.
She’s interested in Generation Citizen because she is
fascinated with the American Education system.
From being inducted as an official club by Pace University’s
Student Development and Campus Activities, to winning
Student Organization of the Month, this semester has been one
with lots of success for Generation Citizen at Pace University.
We have seen great turn out and support from The University
community and thank everyone for their support. We have
great events planned for next semester and hope to see
everyone there. Please stay tuned for information via our
website or facebook page.
A huge thank you to all our Democracy Coaches for their hard
work and dedication this semester. Generation Citizen is a
rigorous program, but the end result—knowing that you have
changed a student’s outlook on life—is so fulfilling.
We would also like to thank all those involved in assisting us in
our mission on and off campus.
