As a Coordinator of Facilities, Events and Operations at Rutgers University, I have had
the chance to instruct and advise numerous student interns each passing year. Every so often, I
have been privileged to have the opportunity to educate and even mentor a truly outstanding
student who distinguishes themselves from their peers in a numerous of ways. To this end, it is
my pleasure to recommend David Tomkins to you. Both bright and engaging, the striking
maturity that he exemplifies in his approach to his school and future career is one that is most
definitely not seen amongst an average college student. He has embraced the advice that I have
instructed him in with a deep passion and commitment, and has more often than not reached out
above and beyond my own initiative, so as to gain a deeper understanding of the way that
sporting events operate here at Rutgers Athletics.
When I first met David in December during his interview for the internship, he came
across as an enthusiastic young man with big aspirations and a mindset dedicated towards
gaining the knowledge and experience necessary to succeed in the sports world.
Regardless of the essential obstacles he faced daily while on my staff, whether it be
weather related during games or just dealing with the difficulty of fans and sometimes coaches
he has continuously expressed to me the profound gratification that he had from finally having
the chance to explore the industry from a truly professional perspective as well as overcome
them and handle with extreme professionalism.
David Tomkins is beyond a doubt a uniquely remarkable and intelligent young man. The
incredible focus he embodies towards attaining his goals is something truly rare amongst his
peers. Just as he has excelled at both his undergraduate education and his internship with Rutgers
Athletics, David will continue to excel in his future studies in graduate school and/or his career.
With a resolve and focus that has been unmatched by any of my interns to date, I am entirely
