Event data: The Human
▪ Events discrete in time

▪ Typically data backing a line or points on a chart

▪ Short-lived, high quantity

▪ Examples: monitoring, adtech, analytics

I can store billions of events for you 
to query however you like – and fast.
Larger, low-frequency events are 
a hassle for me, and don’t ask me

Timeslice data: The Half-Orc
▪ Pre-aggregated time-series data. Written in 
a coarser time resolution than event data,
representing a time bucket of single events

▪ Also powers lines on charts, but cannot 
power histograms or percentiles

▪ Examples: weather observations, population
statistics, low-fidelity monitoring needs
