Charles Darwin developed the theory of evolution by natural selection. He sailed around the world on the HMS Beagle where he began to form his theories about evolution and the diversity of life. His theory of evolution by natural selection proposed that species evolve over generations through a process where favorable genetic traits increase the chances of survival and reproduction.
