God was originally the king of Israel and gave them the law at Mount Sinai, instructing them to be a holy nation set apart from others. However, when the Israelites entered the promised land they were tempted by the customs of the native peoples. After a period of judges, the people demanded a human king like the other nations had, despite God wanting to remain their king. Samuel warned them about the consequences of a king but the people insisted.

The new covenant established by Jesus's death through his blood is the eternal covenant that fulfills all previous covenants by providing forgiveness of sins for those who accept it by faith.

God promised to make Abraham into a great nation, bless those who blessed him, and that through Abraham's offspring all peoples on earth would receive blessings. This covenant pointed toward Jesus Christ, who was a descendant of Abraham and brought blessings to all nations through his sacrifice.

The Abrahamic Covenant established God's promise to Abraham that through him all the nations of the earth would be blessed. God promised to make Abraham into a great nation, bless those who blessed him, and that through Abraham's offspring all peoples on earth would receive blessings. This covenant pointed toward Jesus Christ, who was a descendant of Abraham and brought blessings to all nations through his sacrifice.
Sabbath school lesson 12, 4th quarter of 2015

God’s favour

Colossians 2

Session 15 Old Testament Overview - I & II Kings

In the lead up to South Africa's election, the document urges praying against violence and notes that democracy, where the people govern, aligns with God's preferred form of government over alternatives like monarchy that concentrate power.

The woman sits on many waters, which represent the peoples and nations over which she holds sway.

1. King Solomon, the wisest man who once feared the Lord, strayed from his wisdom and God's commands by developing insatiable appetites for wealth and women later in life.
2. His heart became turned away from fully devoted to God, and he engaged in idolatry by worshipping the false gods of his many foreign wives.
3. The lessons are that no one is immune from temptation, no position or privileges can protect from sin, and sin can gradually creep in if one is not vigilant and committed to resisting it at all times.

God made promises to Abraham that his descendants would inherit the land of Canaan. This included both Isaac's descendants (the Israelites) and Ishmael's descendants (the Arabs). However, there were conditions for occupying the land - the Israelites must obey God's commandments. If they disobeyed, God would drive them out of the land and scatter them among the nations as punishment. Only when the Israelites finally return to God and obey him will they regain possession of the entire promised land. As of the time of this document, the Israelites had not yet returned to God, so they do not fully control the land.
