Welcome to Silicon Valley trip. Fun and experienced trip with IMBA7!
Experience with the great course, companies visit and coolest seminar with the world leader investor.
A 6th grade class visited a neighborhood teashop to learn about how others live differently. The first experience at the teashop was wonderful, as the students enjoyed tea and landscape views. Teashops serve as resting areas for trishaw riders on their afternoon breaks and as gathering places for local children to play outside under shady trees near the road.

Delivered by Tariq Khokhar at the European Association of Development Research and Training Institute's Information Management Working Group Conference in Antwerp, Belgium on September 13th, 2012.
The document discusses the "Scramble for Africa" in the late 19th century where European powers raced to colonize parts of Africa. It led to tensions between the nations as they competed for valuable land and resources. Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Belgium all gained colonies in Africa during this time period. The maps show the territories each country controlled by 1914. The colonial disputes, especially between Britain and France over Egypt and Morocco, strained relations and contributed to the build up of tensions in Europe prior to World War 1.

This document summarizes key trends in the mobile app market based on data from Flurry Analytics. It finds that the iOS and Android app markets have grown enormously, with over 530 million active devices, but still represent only 25% of their total addressable market. Mobile games are the most popular app category and have surpassed traditional game revenue. Free-to-play games with in-app purchases are the most common business model. User retention for apps is low, with most people only using 5-10 out of the 85 apps they download. The document identifies several successful game genres like endless pass times, social RPGs, and gamer's games. It concludes by promoting Flurry's analytics, advertising, and monetization
This paper proposes a theoretical model to distinguish between "reproductive cycles" and "nonreproductive cycles" and explain their relationship to long economic expansions and crises. The authors define a reproductive cycle as one where a economic downturn restores conditions for rapid economic growth, while a nonreproductive cycle requires fundamental changes to institutions. They argue long expansions are characterized by reproductive cycles that sustain profitability, while long crises feature nonreproductive cycles that lead to stagnation until a new social structure of accumulation is established. The authors present evidence that business cycles function differently depending on whether it is an expansion or crisis period of the long swing in economic activity.
Rachel interviewed people who work in tea shops in Burma to understand how they live. She learned about U Tun Tun, who owns a tea shop and lives simply. People in the tea shops not only work there but also sell vegetables and Thanaka cream. Since some cannot afford cars, they rent trishaws for transportation. U Tun Tun's tea shop has a small kitchen where customers keep the helpers busy cooking. Children play among the trees and with bicycles instead of playgrounds. Cooking is done by hand and charcoal is stored outside. Wood is used for fire and stored beside the tea shop. U Tun Tun's house is not as nice as Western homes so the tea shop roof shows his simple living conditions.
This document summarizes a paper by Richard R. Nelson and Sidney G. Winter titled "The Schumpeterian Tradeoff Revisited". It discusses Joseph Schumpeter's view that competition between firms involves research and development and innovation, and that technological progress provides greater long-term gains to society than competitive pricing. It also discusses the "Schumpeterian Hypothesis" that market power and large firms are necessary for rapid technological advancement, representing a tradeoff between static efficiency and dynamic innovation. The document outlines the authors' model of Schumpeterian competition and how it examines the relationship between technological change, market structure, and industry performance under different conditions.
Networks allow simultaneous access to shared resources like data, programs, and devices. They facilitate communication between computers by linking them together. Common network types include personal area networks spanning 10 meters, local area networks within an office or building, and wide area networks across multiple cities. Devices like network interface cards, hubs, bridges, routers, and gateways are used to connect computers to networks and other networks using different standards. Networks can have bus, ring, star, mesh, or tree topologies.
Beginning January 1, 2011, there will be significant tax increases affecting personal income taxes, health care taxes, small business taxes, and more. This combination of tax increases will result in the largest tax increase in US history. For individuals, income tax rates will rise substantially. The standard deduction and many tax credits will be reduced or eliminated. Health insurance provided by employers will become taxable income. Small businesses will see reductions in expensing and credits. The increases will reduce disposable income for most Americans and businesses, potentially limiting growth.
The document presents a photo essay about the life of a neighbor, Oh Mah Cho, a mother of 3 children. Some key details:
1) Oh Mah Cho and her neighbors live in small wooden houses due to lack of space and money in the area.
2) Meals are prepared from local market ingredients and include curries and fried chicken.
3) A daily ritual is giving offerings to a household Buddha statue.
4) Oh Mah Cho's husband works as a taxi driver for income instead of a trishaw.
5) The children attend Burmese school and see a local family doctor when sick.
