Level 1 Individual EcologyWe will measure 3 characteristics o.docxsmile790243
Level 1: Individual Ecology
We will measure 3 characteristics of individuals in 3 locations along the Upper Winter Creek trail. We will measure DBH (Diameter at Breast Height), tree height, and leaf size. Each team will have to choose their own methods for each measurement and be sure to verify the precision, accuracy and bias. There is a freeware Image J program developed by the NIH described in a file attached to this module for leaf area measurement but you are welcome to try any app or other method you prefer.
Level 2: Population Ecology
We will document age structure using the DBH data and we will measure dispersion of the population. Once again each team will choose a method for each. 2 methods for calculating dispersion are described in file attached to this module.
Level 3: Community Ecology
We will measure species richness and species diversity using a species count and a calculation each of which, once again, will determined by each team.
The final product will be a scientific poster with all of your data and and explanation of the synthesis of all 3 levels of ecology we sampled. This will be communicated as a concept map with graphs of your data verifying the relationships among the components. This is the first step in making a predictive systems model, like a climate model.

So the robots are certainly coming, but not quite in the way most people think. Concerns that they are going to obsolete us, rise up, and take over, are misguided at best. Worrying about super intelligent machines dis- tracts us from the very real obstacles we will face as increasingly capable machines become more intricately intertwined with our lives and be- gin to share our physical and public spaces. David himself writes, “CAN INTELLIGENT MACHINES IN THE WORKFORCE LEAD TO A NET GAIN IN THE NUMBER OF JOBS” (David,2016) ? The purpose is that how to choose a job in Artificial Intelligence times. We can meet kinds of problem in the future. The first is that Innovation for jobs and growth. Innovative firms are more competitive, able to capture increased market share and more likely to increase employment than their competitors. Over the period 2006-2011, 1.4 million new jobs were created by firms aged less than three years old. Employment in mature businesses, in contrast, fell 400,000(1). The second is that Jobs of the future. A recent report sponsored by the National Broadband Network (NBN) and the Regional Australia Institute makes the case that by 2030 fully half of Australians will need advanced IT skills, in addition to having well- developed soft skills like communication, creativity and critical thinking if they are to flourish in the labor market (2). The third is that The report predicts three classes of work in the world of 2030. Changing jobs – those that exist now but which have evolved beyond their current form, sometimes radically, through the integration of technology, and Fading jobs – those replaced by intelligent machines. (3) Finally, Tomorrow’s Jobs. When The Future Laboratory teamed up with Microsoft to bring some clarity for career planners they produced Tomorrow’s Jobs, a report that predicts some of the more important IT-related jobs of the future. The Future Factory used a method that all of us can use to good effect. First you look at the patterns coming forward from t.
Can Computers Design? Presented at interaction16, March 2, 2016, Helsinki by ...Aalto University
This talk outlines how algorithms may change the way user interfaces are designed. I present foundations and results across a range of user interface types.
The factors that influence the way we work are diverse: they include technology, politics, society the environment and more besides. Any serious attempt to predict the future of work must therefore draw on many disciplines and incorporate many points of view.
That is the guiding principle behind this research project, conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and sponsored by Ricoh Europe. The project began with a series of interviews with experts in fields ranging from economics to ergnomics, to identify the key trends in the next 10 to 15 years.
Organizational and social impact of Artificial IntelligenceAJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: Modern information technologies and the advent of machines powered by artificial intelligence
(AI) have already strongly influenced the world of work in the 21st century. Computers, algorithms and
software simplify everyday tasks, and it is impossible to imagine how most of our life could be managed
without them. However, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has its own advantages and disadvantages.
With the recent boom in big data and the continuous need for innovation, Artificial Intelligence is carving out a
bigger place in our society. Through its computer-based capabilities, it brings new possibilities to tackle many
issues within organizations. It also raises new challenges about its use and limits. Over the past few years,
developments in artificial intelligence (AI) have captured the imagination of tens of millions of people around
the world. Both the sophistication and the societal impact of intelligent technologies are set to increase
substantially in the coming years and decades, as are the associated policy challenges. This includes how
government agencies protect consumers and citizens from unethical, unsafe or unsound use of AI systems
employed in critical contexts such as health, finance, or employment by companies or individuals. Some of the
impacts of AI on organizations include: power shifts; reassignment of decision making responsibility; cost
reduction and enhanced service; and personnel shifts and downsizing as some jobs are done Robots. This paper
aims to provide a better understanding of the organizational and social impact of Artificial Intelligence in the
organizational decision making process. Unemployment is not the same as leisure, and there are deep links
between unemployment and unhappiness, self-doubt, and isolation understanding what policies and norms can
break these links could significantly improve the median quality of life. Empirical and theoretical research on AI
came up with discussions and findings that with time the negative perceptions will be addressed.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

about 5 million digitalized books, in particular the patterns of 40k
commonly used words in English, and by continued interaction
with humans
I See article by Stephen Wolfram (2023): What is ChatGPT
doing...and why does it work?1
...and what could be the consequences for the world of work?

5. ChatGPT and the Future of Work
My short answer:
ChatGPT is another step in the digital transformation of our societies,
including our workplaces and the world of work. Over the next 10 - 25 years,
this transformation provides opportunities for entire economies as well as
individual enterprises to:
I Re-think all production processes
I deconstruct and regenerate "jobs" by new job designs
I re-think the division of labor between humans and machines
I raise productivity and create better and more satisfying working
conditions
...but this has less to do with Technology than it has with the "Political
Framework" (such as labor market regulations, HR policies, bargaining
power of workforce vs. management/shareholders)
Daniel Samaan (ILO Research) People Analytics Conference 2 June 2023 5 / 1
6. ChatGPT and the Future of Work
My long(er) answer:
I Automation and job replacement
I Transformation of jobs
I Productivity
I Ethical Considerations
I Implications for HRM
Daniel Samaan (ILO Research) People Analytics Conference 2 June 2023 6 / 1
7. Automation and Transformation
Automation and transformation of jobs
I Knowledge workers or "white collar workers" mostly affected.
I 80% of U.S. workforce could have 10% of their tasks affected.2
I 19% of workers may see at least 50% of their tasks impacted.
I And in other countries...?

8. Automation and Transformation
Globally, there are about 644 and 944 million knowledge workers
(between 19.4 - 30.7% of global workforce3

9. Automation and Transformation
...but are the jobs automated, i.e. destroyed, or transformed?
The implications in each case are different for:
I Types of labor market transitions (intra-organizational,
interorganizational, across sectors)
I Training and skills demand, and financing of training
I Income shifts (Between wages and profits or within the wage
distribution)

10. Productivity
Experimental evidence about productivity hints at the
following:4
I Productivity of workers can be raised (for example for mid-level
professional writing tasks).
I ChatGTP restructures tasks towards idea-generation and editing
and away from rough-drafting.
I But quality of essays did not significantly improve for all workers:
Hence, it mostly substitutes for worker effort rather than
complementing worker skills.
I Inequality between workers decreased during the experiment, as
low-ability workers benefited more from the help provided by
ChatGPT.

11. Productivity
More (anecdotical) evidence about working with ChatGPT:
I find it very useful for
I Programming (but I am not a strong programmer....)
I Looking up quickly how to do something related to computer work
I Producing a rough draft of something that I can work on.
I Is it basically a better search engine?
Can we generalize all this evidence somehow?
Daniel Samaan (ILO Research) People Analytics Conference 2 June 2023 11 / 1
12. Productivity
Many jobs require carrying out simple or more complex computations....

15. Conclusions and Implications for HRM
Probably we will see more transformation than automation for
most jobs:
It’s not so easy to automate things on a large scale!
1 Technical feasibility
2 Economic viability
3 Re-organize production process so (1) ans (2) apply
Daniel Samaan (ILO Research) People Analytics Conference 2 June 2023 15 / 1
16. Conclusions and Implications for HRM
What would I do if I were in a People Analytics Unit?
I Focus on tasks of your workers and their job designs.
I In a big organization, it’s complicated...but let’s not do it adhoc we have
data science.
I Who are your knowledge workers and what are they actually doing?
I Identify the potential and then raise organizational efficiency
(productivity).
I Try to establish a fair process of transitions... that makes your workforce
better off in terms of working conditions and wages5
I ....and makes your workforce better off.
Thank you!
