Daniel and three young men were captured by Babylon and taken to serve King Nebuchadnezzar. The king's servant Ashpenaz told them they must eat meat, wine and sweets, but Daniel and the men refused to disobey God's commandments and only ate vegetables and fruits. After 10 days of testing, Ashpenaz found that Daniel and the men were stronger than all the others, so they continued fasting for 3 years. God blessed Daniel with wisdom, favor with the king, good health, and spiritual blessings for choosing to obey God over everything else. Fasting brings one closer to God, increases faith, and God will strengthen those who fast.

Jonah part i
God calls Jonah to preach to Nineveh but Jonah flees by boat. A storm arises and the sailors discover Jonah is responsible, throwing him into the sea to calm it. Jonah is swallowed by a large fish, prays inside for three days, and is then vomited out. God again calls Jonah to Nineveh, where his warning of destruction in three days causes the entire city to repent from the king to the animals. God sees their repentance and decides not to destroy the city, showing his desire for all people to repent and be saved.

St. Anthony the Great was born in Upper Egypt in the 3rd century AD to a wealthy Christian family. At age 18, after the deaths of his parents, he heard a passage from the Bible calling him to give up his possessions and follow God. He gave his wealth to the poor and became a hermit, living in a cave to devote himself fully to God. For many years, St. Anthony struggled against demonic temptations and visions, emerging victorious through his strong faith. He became a teacher and father figure to many monks, establishing several monasteries before his death at age 105.
Incarnation
God took human form and became man as Jesus. Jesus was fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin woman according to prophecy to be without sin so he could defeat evil and free those waiting in Hades after death. Only God meets all the characteristics needed for our savior. Thus, God became man in the form of Jesus to save humanity and open paradise again for the righteous, because He loves us.

When the man discovered it was St. Nicholas, he thanked him for saving his daughters from poverty or sinful lives. St. Nicholas is the basis for the legend of Santa Claus who brings gifts during Christmas.

The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her she would conceive and give birth to a son named Jesus. Gabriel said Jesus would be called the Son of God and would reign forever. Mary was initially confused because she was a virgin but Gabriel explained the Holy Spirit would come upon her and empower her to conceive. Mary accepted God's will and said "Let it be according to your word."
