GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Dear Dairy,
Today I just got born and I had finally seen the
outside world. I also found out that I was a Girl. My
mama called me Lilly. When I was about to play with
my big brothers, my mom picked me up a licked me.
It felt weird. She told me that I need to be clean.
After the saliva bath, I was able to play with my
brothers. We went to a field to play hid-go-seek. One
of my favorite games. We tigers can hid in a grassy
place because we camouflage into it. After we went
home and had a delouses deer, I went to bed.
3. December 3, 1998
Dear Dairy,
Well Today was a day that I will remember. I am 18
months now ( papa and mama said I have to be 18
months before I learn how to hunt.) and my father was
teaching me how to hunt. While we were doing so, He
yelled at me because I was playing with a butterfly.
When we went home mama was laying down with red
liquid around her, when dad looked at me, and had this
upset and mad face. Then I looked a mama and cried. I
found out mama was killed by a hunter. We were sad. I
would not leave mama side.
4. December 4, 1998
Dear Dairy,
Well, it was me, my two brothers, and my father left.
After burred mama, we went to find water, to take a
swim to find food. We found one and we had to find
out how deep it is. So big brother took a look and
almost drawn until papa jumped in to save him. It was
rough without mama. Me and brothers could not sleep
because we cry thinking about her, she sings a lullaby
to us and before that she tells us a story on how papa
and her first met and on how he saved her from a
hunter.
5. December 11, 1998
Dear Dairy,
Well, it has been a week since mama died and now
papa is not really feeling well. Brother said he might
only have tonight to live. We all were upset and
worried. Brother asked me what are we going to do if
papa dies. I told him I don’t know and that we should
stick together till the very end. Other tigers would
separate but since mama died and father about to die.
I don’t think we are going to separate anytime soon.
6. December 12, 1998
Dear Dairy,
Well, Father died last night and now we are all depress
about it. Things were spinning in my head, mama and
papa died and we have no shelter, no food, or nothing.
It was just horrible. Brother said not to worry and that
we should try to go and hunt for food and find a place
to sleep a night. We decided to go hunting first. Brother
told me to wait behind the trees. But as usually I don’t
listen, I was going to find my brothers when I fell into a
trap. The hunters had found me. I was so scared.
7. December 13, 1998
Dear Dairy,
When I woke up I had seen two people in front of me
and they were talking about this object or place. It was
called a circus what ever that is. They also said that I
was the rarest and the most endangered species of the
tigers. I was so scared that I was crying. The humans
started to hit my cage and made me even more scared.
After they fed me and left. I had saw a little boy
watching me. He noticed how I was scared and
infuriated that I was separated from my brothers. So he
helped me escaped. When I got out I licked him as a
symbol of our new friendship. After that I ran as fast as
I could to find my brothers.
8. December 14, 1998
Dear Dairy,
It has been getting cold lately and I hope I get to find
my brothers soon. When I went by the river to get a
cold drink, I had seen a family of bears and I was
watching them play, the three kids were playing a game
while the two parents were looking for shelter. It
reminded me of how my family used to be until every
thing happened. After I left I felt like I would never get
to see my brothers again when all of a sudden I heard
tigers hollering and yelling for me. I ran to see who it
was and there they are my two older brothers. I was so
happy that I started to cry.
9. January 14 , 1999
Dear Dairy,
It has been a month since my return and my older brother had a wife and
kids already. I was playing with my little nephews when I had seen a deer,
my nephews wanted me to go and get it while they watch. It was fun
having my brothers, sister, and my nephews watch me being brave and
catching the deer. I some time wish my mama and papa was here, but I
know they are watching me. After this last page that am writing in my
dairy, I am going to read it to my children and have them pass it down
generations to generations. Good bye Dairy.
