BUDGET carrier Tiger Airways posted a loss of S$95.5
mn for Q4 ended March 31, deepening the red ink from
the S$15.38 mn loss posted in the corresponding quarter
a year earlier. The loss was attributed mainly to
exceptional charges and share of losses of associate and
joint ventures. Exceptional charges comprised a S$25 mn
provision for planned grounding of 8 aircraft and S$27.4
mn impairment of an associate; the share of losses of
associate & joint ventures included a S$11.9 mn.
Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC, has agreed to
extend a 3.4 bn peso loan convertible into equity to the
parent of Century Pacific Food, ahead of the latter's
Philippine listing. Century Pacific told the Philippine
Stock Exchange on Friday its parent, canned fish
producer Century Canning Corp, will use the proceeds to
finance expansion.
SMRT Corp announced before the May Day holiday that
it had swung back into a profit in its fiscal fourth quarter.
Net profit for the three months ended March rose to
S$16.9 million, compared to a year-ago loss of S$12
million, as the public transport operator significantly
grew non-fare profit while narrowing losses in its bus
operations.
