The Minoans were an ancient civilization that originated on the island of Crete around 2500 BC and lasted until about 1400 BC when they were conquered by the Mycenaeans. They depended heavily on trade, especially with Egypt and the Middle East. The Minoans ate a variety of foods including squid, beans, grains, grapes, olives and meats. They wore clothing like kilts for men and layered skirts and bodices for women.
