D2i partnered with Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT), a Jordanian NGO that seeks to build a culture of free speech, human rights, social equality, and educational opportunity. LOT employs innovative projects like For9a (an educational platform), Diwanieh (open street debates), and FadFed (qualitative research) to promote civic engagement. D2i fellows collaborated with LOT over 4 months to develop solutions and gain experience in social impact, culminating in a 1-week trip where they helped LOT build capacity and cultural exchange.

We are explorers on a new frontier, erasing the lines between business and social impact. In the same
character as explorers discovering new realms of our physical world, the D2international (D2i) team
answers to a grand mission and is just crazy enough to succeed. We self-identify as a new breed of
social “intrapreneurs” working to change the world from within business.
At the heart of D2i is an annual Social Impact Fellowship. After establishing operations in Guatemala
and Bosnia & Herzegovina, D2i ventured this year to the Middle East to work with an incredible
grassroots organization helping to break cycles of elitism in education and giving voice to young
people in Jordan. This report tells our story.
In this third year, D2i is growing in a significant way – evolving beyond the Fellowship and closer to our
vision of being a catalyst for socially impactful business practices. We recognize the special chain of
interactions, trustful leadership, and resources that came together on Day Zero to give life to the idea
that became D2international. In this spirit, D2i is spearheading the effort to spark and support social
intrapreneurship at Deloitte. This is our response to the question: “How many opportunities are we
missing when we proceed with business as usual?”
We dream of opening up a new world where every part of the business answers to both financial
and social objectives. We dream of a world where the pursuits of business align with the pursuits of
individuals who seek to employ their full human potential to improve society.
This report provides a glimpse into this world. We hope you enjoy.

D2international Program Lead
Every year I say two words about D2i. I believe.
I believe D2i is a reflection of the power of Deloitte and the culture of new ideas that we foster in every
practitioner in the firm. I am always amazed at the impact people can make when acting on ideas
together and in new ways. Simply put, Deloitte starts and ends with people. Our business thrives on
the creative mind and strength of impact we achieve with the people we engage. D2i embodies that
mindset.
A few years back, D2i started with a kernel of an idea. This kernel has grown every year generating a
new energy inside our practitioners and empowering them to tackle very different and difficult social
issues coupling ingenuity and compassion with the tools of our business trade. Not only does the
D2i team unlock new pathways to create meaningful ideas and methods to drive social impact, it also
prompts our Deloitte leaders and our teams to think differently about the inter-workings of our day to
day lives and our the connection of our business to our world.
I believe this synergy is what makes D2i so valuable and constantly new. It continuously ignites the
power inside each of us and challenges us to test and realize new definitions of how we work and
contribute in our society.
This year, the D2i story from Jordan continues in that vein and compels us forward to foster and grow
social intrapreneurship inside our business. I believe in D2i as an innovation with limitless possibility to
develop our people, power new ideas, and develop our world.

Once fellows have gained social Intrapreneurship skills and experience developed through the D2i
Fellowship, they join the D2i Ambassador community. D2i Ventures are vehicles for D2i Ambassadors
to continue to drive impact within the broader Deloitte community and social impact space. Through
Ventures, D2i Ambassadors build upon their knowledge, solutions, and networks to generate business
development opportunities and relevant eminence with an emphasis on mutual value exchange.
By adopting the “Social Intraprise Model,” Ventures are structurally designed to maintain fidelity to a
social mission and respond to market forces and community needs.

The relationships formed with the collaborative organization of each Fellowship may culminate in an
in-country solution delivery trip, but they do not end there. A key pillar of the D2i mission is to be
sustainable in its collaboration and impact beynd the conclusion of the Fellowship in-country solution
delivery trip. Successive annual Fellowship cohorts have built and maintained impactful relationships
with organizations in Guatemala, Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH), and Jordan.
This collaboration allows for the sustained development of the practitioners, and helps to ensure that
the organizations can count on D2i as they implement solutions and take on new business challenges.
D2i Sustainability teams aligned to each of the organizations have been charged with reviewing and
supporting adoption of original Fellowship solutions, and collaborating with organizations on new
capacity building opportunities. In FY15, D2i Sustainability teams traveled back to both Guatemala
and BiH to continue to iterate on solutions and collaborate with organizations on their most pressing
business challenges.

introduction
D2international (D2i)’s vision is to be a catalyst for socially impactful business practices. Powered
by millennials, we pursue a new model of corporate social responsibility that harnesses business
skills for social impact - developing ethical leadership while empowering social organizations and the
communities they serve. D2i is powered by unconventional ideas and a belief in accomplishing the
impossible. D2i is:
I. Purpose-Driven; Business-Growing: Established with the belief that social
value and business value can be mutually reinforcing, achieving greater
outcomes than either on its own
II. Millennial-Run; Cross-Generational: Founded and managed by Deloitte’s
junior practitioners
III. Sustainable Collaborations & Impact: Operates through an innovative
collaboration model designed to generate new ideas and lasting value
IV: Social Intrapreneurship: Works inside organizations to develop and promote
practical solutions to social challenges where market failures exist
Vision & purpose
d2i program overview
D2i aims to create a platform for social innovation among Deloitte’s millennials, where llike-minded
people from a diverse set of backgrounds can come together and gain hands-on experiences. At the
heart of D2i is an annual Social Impact Fellowship that brings together ~30 Deloitte fellows with an
international NGO or social enterprise to help the organization build capacity and scale its impact. The
fellowship consists of a four-month training and development program during which fellows couple
solution development with learning about social impact service delivery. The program culminates in a
one-week international trip focused on capacity-building and cultural exchange. Fellows are selected
among Federal Analysts and Consultants from Deloitte Consulting’s three Services Areas: Human
Capital, Strategy and Operations, and Technology. Fellows are supported by the D2i leadership team,
program advisors, and a broader network of program Ambassadors, mentors, and subject matter
specialists.

collaborationoverview
D2i has collaborated with an organization this
year to tackle Jordan’s challenges with a team
of passionate Jordanian youth, including full-
time staff, interns, and an army of dedicated
volunteers. Leaders of Tommorrw (LOT) is an NGO
that seeks to build and sustain a new culture in
which free speech, human rights, social equality,
and educational opportunity are widespread and
accessible to all of Jordan and the Middle East.
To enable this vision, LOT employs innovative
methodologies and projects that promote civic
engagement and inspire citizens to work together
to better their country.
Three primary initiatives drive the achievement
of LOT’s mission in separate aspects of social
and political culture: For9a (pronounced “for-
sah”), Diwanieh, and FadFed. For9a is a platform
that provides young people with educational
freedom and connects them with educational and
employment opportunities that would otherwise
be inaccessible to them. Diwanieh brings open
debate to the streets, providing an avenue for
citizens to discuss political and social issues of
all kinds, including controversial and traditionally
taboo topics. FadFed is a qualitative research
methodology that captures public opinion and
promotes freedom of expression by encouraging
participants to respond to carefully crafted
questions by writing on large sections of white
leaders of tomorrow
diwanieh
FadFed

paper covering the walls of a closed venue or
public space.
Together, LOT’s three main initiatives build a
community of young leaders who are educated,
critical thinkers, and passionate change agents
capable of serving their local communities
creatively. These communities of young leaders in
turn form a political and social network of change,
through which ideas flow and intersect to create
the reform that LOT aims to achieve.
After enjoying tremendous success in its first
eight years as an organization, including 19 public
debates in governorates across Jordan, 1+ million
people reached via For9a’s social media platforms
every week, and 13+ FadFed events, LOT has
reached a critical point in its maturity level. The
organization has grown from a small grassroots
effort with limited operations, a small team, and
little funding to a full-fledged NGO that runs
parallel projects and initiatives, staffs a diverse
team of employees and volunteers, and benefits
from widespread brand recognition. As such,
LOT faces the same operational challenges that
growing organizations in any region face, as well
as many that are unique to NGOs in the Middle
East. In order to continue driving positive change
and social impact through its initiatives, LOT must
align is operations, strategies, and processes
with the needs of a scaling organization.
countryoverview
The D2i program has no borders, taking fellows
from the U.S. to diverse regions of the world
to support a variety of organizations working
to make a positive impact on their people and
environment. This year’s fellowship continued that
theme, working in a region that is constantly in
the spotlight as countries struggle through conflict
and unrest to offer their citizens the peace,
stability, and equality they need to succeed and
thrive.
Although the Middle East has a rich cultural
history, recent events have threatened the social
and economic stability of countries in the region.
Through the turmoil, Jordan has emerged as a
leader and source of hope in the region. However,
Jordanians are not immune to the political,
economic, and social circumstances that plague
the region, including unequal access to economic
opportunities, challenges of transparency and
accountability, and the challenges of political
reform. Specifically, Jordan faces challenges of
decreasing tourism, rising government debt, a
lack of natural energy and water resources, high
unemployment, and low labor market efficiency
particularly regarding female participation in the
jordan fellowship overview
labor force (per capita).
With 21% of the population between the ages
of 15 - 241
, the effects of these issues are
particularly acute for Jordanian youth. According
to the European Training Foundation, 60% of job-
seekers in Jordan are under the age of 25. The
social and economic challenges faced by youth
often lead to apathy and disengagement from the
political process. With a population that skews as
young as Jordan’s, youth employment and civic
participation are essential to the future success of
the country, especially with regard to economic
stability.
D2i sees great potential in Jordan. Jordan has the
opportunity to be a catalyst for positive change in
the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region,
and is excited to be working to empower those
who are passionate about addressing Jordan’s
challenges head on and working toward a brighter
future for the Middle East.

FY15fellowshipteams In 2015, the D2i Team set out to address three overarching objectives with Leaders
of Tomorrow:
The Fellows spent 14 weeks developing solutions to address the core business
challenges related to achieving these objectives, distributed across the following five
teams:
Build the capacity of staff to grow and
advance the organization
Strengthen the three core initiatives:
For9a, FadFed, and Diwanieh
Develop a social enterprise roadmap
to support financial sustainability and
impact at scale
The Impact Evaluation team empowered LOT with a set of tools
designed to enable it to make proactive decisions on where to
best allocate scarce resources, while effectively communicating
its impact to donors and stakeholders.

The Art of Storytelling
The Social Enterprise Design team provided LOT with a
framework to understand and evaluate decisions as the
organization moves towards a social enterprise model within a
complex cultural setting.
The Social Analytics team developed a solution that not only
simplifies LOT’s data collection and aggregation processes, but
also provides a dynamic, user friendly way to visualize patterns
in FadFed data and draw valuable insights around trends in
public sentiment.
The Talent Strategy team enabled LOT to accelerate its
interview timeline and achieve greater success in identifying
the most promising talent using a talent toolkit. Moreover, the
solutions developed during the in-country workshop provided
staff with a renewed sense of engagement and clarity about
their own contributions to LOT’s greater mission.
The Art of Storytelling team’s “in-country impact was two-
fold. First, leveraging the Storytelling Toolkit, the team helped
LOT to realize a long-standing vision for a fundraising video.
Second, in utilizing the Toolkit to develop the Social Innovation
Challenge, D2i and LOT helped Jordanian youth translate
their ideas for addressing the challenge of Wasta into tangible,
actionable solutions.
