The Community Youth Development Program is funded through a grant from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to improve youth programs and reduce juvenile crime in the 78744 ZIP code of Austin. The Community Youth Development Collaborative Committee, made up of community stakeholders, meets 4-6 times per year to accomplish initiatives to prevent juvenile crime, identify community strengths and needs, and determine which youth programs should receive grant funding. The Community Youth Development (CYD) Collaborative Committee represents the 78744 ZIP code by improving youth
programs to reduce juvenile crime. It is made up of various people including 78744 residents, area youth programs,
school officials, law enforcement, churches, business owners, and other community stakeholders who work together to
have a lasting impact on the community.
The CYD Collaborative Committee will meet approximately 4 to 6 times a year to:
 accomplish community initiatives in relation to juvenile crime prevention
 assist with identifying the strengths and needs of the community
 identify which youth programs should receive CYD grant funding in the community
 solicit feedback from the community on the effectiveness of CYD grant funded youth programs
The CYD Collaborative Committee is always in search of new members with new perspectives to help strengthen the

I have worked with youth in various roles; notably Americorps tutor program/ACC work study, youth instructor
for Iglesia Comunitaria Biblica and as substitute teacher for Pflugerville ISD. These are in addition to the
traditional familial responsibilities both in my immediate and extended family; I've cared for children on some
level since the age of 12. Children truly are our future and their success hinges on the stability and security we
provide (as parents) or afford (as educators) them today.
I have been researching this very topic for our neighborhood, motivated by my own childhood experience and
my passion for education. I've put all of my extra time for the past year in researching and working toward my
Bachelor degree. I am an unstoppable optimist, whose core value emits from pure underdog spirit. My work
experience has been mainly in healthcare Customer Service (call center environments), substitute teaching and
working with my parents in floor prep and installation.

Prevention in the form of cognitive "re-association" of common false beliefs through new, positive experiences.
Such as; introspective projects, group discussions and community outreach event planning - in which, youth
could express themselves while testing their abilities and experiencing their community dynamics from a
different angle; with constructive, solution based thinking in mind. Replacing skewed emotional intelligence
concerning things like communication styles, coping methods and an understanding of life's developmental
milestones disseminated through recognizable mediums; such as, rap lyrics, graffiti art or relevant field trips
would be most memorable. Creating new associations and a healthy more productive knowledge base, for
young people to draw their future choices from.
Healing home life in communities like Dove Springs is my heart's passion. I have various ideas, goals and dreams
in relation to exactly what the committee was set up to combat and to restore. Initially, I would be grateful to
get a better understanding of how the committee functions and how I can help support their current
endeavors. There are simple, short-term, inexpensive projects I've wanted to take on; such as passing out "Tool
Serial Number Log Handouts" to help families avoid the expense of replacing stolen tools. Eventually, I'd like to
have my own organization that fills any gaps in Austin's support services to underprivileged populations.
